How to make your own cloth diapers

In this video I will show you a simple cloth diaper diy. We will make both a flat and a preflat cloth diaper and I will show you how to use both! These would be considered a luxury cloth diaper.
You will need a pair of scissors and some fabric at the minimum.
The ideal size of a flat diaper (in my opinion is 28” (71cm) square.
My pre-flats are 21” (53 cm) long by 18.5” (47 cm) wide.
Fold the fabric over so that the fold is the same direction as the best stretch your fabric has. The folded end will be where the two layers join and this will the shorter (18.5” / 47 cm) side. To make the "wings" that wrap around your baby, you will mark a spot 4.5” (11 cm) from the long side and 6” (15 cm) from the short side.

    Thanks for sharing the measurements of your preflat pattern! I’m wondering what the advantage is of not serging the two layers together? Easier construction and drying? More potential folding configurations?

  • @Rebecca.Robbins

    @Rebecca.Robbins

    Жыл бұрын

    It’s easier / faster drying. You just need to grab the bottom corners and it’s folded perfectly together. It also gives you a few more folding options, but the real reason I designed them this way is for ease of drying.

    Are both the prefold and the flat sizes good for infant to potty training?

  • @Rebecca.Robbins

    @Rebecca.Robbins

    11 ай бұрын

    Yes! The preflats can be a bit much for newborns, but are do-able. The flats are awesome for all ages but as your baby becomes a toddler they will likely need an insert to help them absorb more.

    @@Rebecca.Robbins haha ok, so the extra fabric on the side of the preflat that you just made, is that just made into another preflat or is it too short I was trying to figure that out too.

    So is this the complete diaper, or do I still need to add inserts? If so, what and how please

  • @Rebecca.Robbins

    @Rebecca.Robbins

    9 ай бұрын

    Typically with the preflats you won’t need an insert. With the flats, I would use off cuts as inserts as needed. You can surge the edges, but you don’t even need to. It really depends on your baby and how often you change diapers though when and how many you will need.
