Yes I used it for making a cake replacing where it called for water I used the buttermilk. It made the cake better. How long do you think the buttermilk stays good in a mason jar in the fridge?

I made butter for years when I had a cow. Use a large shallow bowl to "wash" the butter. Drain the whey off then spread the butter on the bowl bottom. Now salt it very heavily to clean out the last of the bitter whey. Now work your butter in cold water until there is just a hint of salt left. The salt is a tool in the process

My local grocery store sells heavy cream for about a dollar when it's close to its expiration date and they have to make room for a new shipment. I like to buy that and make it into butter and save the buttermilk for baking. Sometimes I'll melt some of the butter down into ghee (clarified butter). Ghee is absolutely perfect for stovetop popcorn.

Pretty sure butter existed before electricity. So you can always just beat it by hand or shake it in a jar and make butter the same way. But if you have a machine, use that. A £15 electric hand-whisk will work just as well as a £300 standing mixer. Don't pretend butter is gate-kept behind some sort of barrier of wealth, when really it's because you can't figure out how to adapt the recipe!

The churn is just a gimmick. How to make Butter in 5 easy steps! Step 1- put heavy cream in a mason jar. Step 2- find a child and tell them if they shake the magic liquid it will turn to gold Step 3- after you've kept the child occupied for 15 minutes, separate the butter from buttermilk Step 4- wash butter under tap water and add salt to your liking Step 5- Enjoy your butter! Don't forget to return the child to its parent. Step 6 (optional): run from police. They don't tend to understand how butter is made

How mhow much cream do you need to make a regular size block of butter. Wo t it be cheaper to buy? And yes...I know that isn't necessarily the point of making your own butter.

How much butter volume do you get from say a 1/2 a gallon of milk or a whole 1 gallon? Any idea on the conversion rates? Thanks. (using whole milk).

Does anyone know the typical “best by” date for home made butter? 😅 I want to make some for me & the family, but only want to make a generous amount based on how fast it could spoil. I love butter but my folks are a bit skeptical on trying new things.

Cream is 2 parts milk, one part butter. But to make butter you need cream. So which came first, butter or cream?
