Hi NG, something else to consider other than cordless is a rear roller push cylinder mower. I recently got a Webb H12R and its been a game changer. A cheap route into cylinder/reel mowing, and would be perfect for your lawn. Results are far better than my petrol rear roller rotary and somehow more enjoyable too.

It's funny you've mentioned that as I've been looking at picking up something similar for the small lawn at the back of my garden. Is it this one: www.amazon.co.uk/WEBB-H12R-30cm-Roller-Mower/dp/B01AYAAMEY

@@NoviceGardenerYes, that's the one. Although the linked one seems pricey. I got a bargain grade-a manufacturer refurb for £55 from an auction site. Also there are lots to be had 'good as new' 2nd hand. People tend to get rid as they don't realise your lawn already has to be in good nick to use this type of mower. The H12R isn't perfect, but it gives a beautiful cut and shouldn't be overlooked. It's basically a cheaper modern lightweight copy of the 1970's reel mowers like the Ransomes Ajax. I'll probably buy a classic mower also, as they were built to last.

Great video, if anyone can't find room for keeping a big knapsack sprayer I recommend the Birchmeier Aquamix handheld sprayer, it's really good and better than any handheld alternative I reckon. I also rate the Gardena handheld spreader for granular products / seeds etc.

Can you apply the fertiliser year round considering it’s called spring summer? Thanks in advanced. Really enjoy the videos - nice to see some UK guys making gardening videos as most of them are not relevant due to them being in the US!

  • @NoviceGardener

Thanks! Technically, yes. But I wouldn't. You can get winter fertilisers that you can start applying once it gets colder. They contain less nitrogen because the grass is not actively growing and they contain more potassium which just helps the lawn to be more resilient in the harsh conditions. Hope that helps!

For a thick, lush lawn, it's not just about regular watering and fertilization - mowing is pivotal, especially in summer. It's crucial not to cut more than 1/3 of the grass's height, as it can weaken the turf. During hot spells, mow higher and less frequently. My lawn maintenance was a challenge until I invested in a robot mower. It mows as often as every day, ensuring optimal lawn health. For manual mowing enthusiasts, it's essential to use sharp blades and mow regularly. Just remember, mowing too much off in one go isn't recommended. It's all about consistency. Before my robot mower, weekend mowing was the norm, and rain disrupted my routine. Now, with a smartphone command, I can direct my robot mower, which also intelligently schedules mowing sessions based on the weather. If you're pondering a robot mower, check your lawn's layout first, as they're less effective on fragmented lawns. A bonus? You can save on fertilizers, as the fine clippings act as a natural nutrient boost. Plus, robot mower blades are budget-friendly. However, bear in mind the initial cost can be substantial. lawns are cheap, however the more the owners become obsessed with their lawn the more expensive the seem to get 🧐

You can do, but it does give it to be warmer with less rain from next week. I've just done a similar thing. I levelled the lawn yesterday and I'm going to seed today. But it won't do any harm giving it another week whilst you're away. Just be sure to get it watered in well!

Your grass will be going to bounce back (says youtuber Lawn life). I have no experience when the grass turn black if you over aplly iron, but your soil is very acid, low ph. Maybe calcium fertilizer helps increase ph of your soil and prepare the better conditions for your grass.

Like was user has said, it will be the iron content being slightly too high. I've got a video coming out about iron at the end of this week. My lawn discoloured slightly for a day or two and then turned dark green - I must have been on the brink of applying too much!
