​@@Wilhuff_T It's not just the price of petrol There's also the price of : the vehicle, insurance, motor tax, NCT, parking, tickets, maintenance, spare parts ... etc Furthermore : you can't put a price on the health benefits of regularly riding a bike.

I got an electric road bike, and the first thing I noticed on my rough street was how uncomfortable it was compared to my regular road bike. The first thing I ordered was the GA3 ergo grips which are very similar to what came on my specialized. Next I tried a shock seatpost, but I found that the height of it was too tall for me, adding +2" to the minimum height just didn't quite work out, which was dissapointing as it did make a huuuge difference to the comfort of my ride.

Bill K If you can afford it, get an R&M with dual suspension. I’m soon to be 75 and have been riding ebikes for a little over three years. First one was a Specialized Turbo. NO suspension. I added a Kinect seat post which helped a lot. Put 8,000 miles on that bike in two years. Then upgraded to an R&M Super Delite with Enviolo rear hub and belt drive, and dual suspension. I’ve not put 4,000+ miles on it and have had it only 10 months. I’m ready to sell my road bike and the Specialized comfort bike I bought 5 years ago. Get an eBike. You’ll love it.

I'm 77 and got an ebike because I live on top of a hill. With an ebike you don't have hills and you don't have headwinds. They are heavier so there are some differences in how you ride.

Get an ebike with peddle assist and a throttle for easy starts. You will love the ebike!

Great informative video, rode Harleys over 100,000 miles now I'm enjoying my E Bike because of the exercise factor . I'm 76 in good/fair shape. Normally I would take hour walks now it's 2 on the bike here in California.

Very thorough.

His video compiles separate stuff I have learned over a few years. Great job. At my LBS, the salesperson didn’t give a damn about comfort after he sold me the bike. Several months after the sale, he could have advised on changing the handlebar and stem due to being stretched out with lower back pain.

A very interesting video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. I recently bought a 2nd hand non-electric *Babboe Big* tadpole tricycle/driewieler bakfiets. It's primary use is to transport astrophotography gear, (not Newtonian telescopes, and RCs). It's also splendid for going shopping here in Amsterdam. A trundle down to the supermarket and back, is very convenient. However, its downside is it's a heavy hardtail beast. Any bumps and lumps on the cycle path surface, are felt straight up my spine. To alleviate the problem, I upgraded the seat post to a *SUNTOUR SP-12 NCX* suspension saddle/seat post. I also purchased the optional red hard spring, rated for riders weighing: 100 - 120kg. At just over €71, the post was a bargain. The spring was just over €9. It's made a huge difference my cycling experience. The ride on the *Babboe Big* , is now as smooth as silk. My spine is extremely happy with the purchase 😆. I highly recommend this suspension seat post for anyone with a hardtail non-racing bike 😃.

Thanks Chris.I am 70 and have just started to ride a three wheel tricycle which requires a very upright position. After two or three sessions my sit bones are really aching, so much so that I am still recovering from my last ride two days ago. Your advice to lean forward a little or to adjust the handle bars so that you sit a little more forward and thus reduce the pressure on your sit bones, seems worth trying. My tricycle already has a wider saddle so I will have to continue using that. I am going to buy an e bike conversion kit to help me get up the hills and this might help to reduce the pain in my butt! I love the Jones H Bars... my hands/wrist go to sleep with a standard straight BTB bar... The position is really important... I also recommend the Selle Royal saddles.

Very descriptive video. Definitely I confess that I am fixed on the Brooks b17 or b33 saddles for all my bikes. Very good point about the peddles, I confess that will be the first thing I will change when I receive the packster 70, put a more wider pedal like mountain bike type to use with my trail trainers.

I’m thinking about Brooks for my Tern HSD S8i but on peddles I fitted the two sided Shimano M324 so I can ride clipped in or not. Packager 70 a stunning machine 👍

Find a Brooks saddle that suits you. Most common one is the B17. I have two of them. If you want a bit suspension then the Flyer is B17 with springs! Tourers love them, I love them!

It's those frames that splits in 2 of rear shocks with front shocks that fits the comfort needed on e bike speed over 24mph. Huge difference from single front shocks and you do feel the bike adapting to surface terrain and extremely fun sitting down thru out. My other 1 front shock only e bike I tend to lift butt up over bumpy terrain.

After I initially bought a telescopic seat post that virtually jammed up under load withing 100 km, I bought a Suntour SP12-NCX suspension seat post with the cover about 5000km ago and never looked back.

Great video. Especially your explanation of sitting upright vs leaning forward. Many believe sitting upright is the ultimate comfort. But I have found the opposite. It is like sitting on a bar stool. Not comfortable for more than a few minutes. And also like you said all the force of bumps go straight through your spine.

I switched to a Hobson Easyseat back in the nineties & I've never gone back. The original hard rubber seat lets my hip bones sit right on the cushion & have full control of balance. The pads also move, allowing for leg movement. I've tried their pro version but still prefer the cheap one & use it on all my bikes. People ask me about it all the time. It does take some getting used to but it was designed by a doctor & it's much better for you.

I have the pedals with the sandpaper grip, and cork Ergon seat & grips. Royal Dutch Gazelle Medio T10.

Some good performance to price products so often esp with stores you only get the super high end stuff in videos

I'm thinking about adding suspended seatpost to my Urban Arrow. The thing is that usually a cargo bike has more than one driver and their weight might differ. I think I will go for Cane Creek, beacuse it's easier to change the elastometer (tool free) while swaping riders than changing the string in Kinekt.

I was interested in your discussion about having fairly rigid soles on your cycle shoes. I would have totally agreed with you 9 months ago, but then started wearing barefoot shoes. Initially they were terrible to ride in, but now that I am used to feeling the ground, even the thinnest-soled shoes feel okay.

Great tips! Any thoughts on numb toes after about 90 minutes of riding? Would you suggest changing shoes first to a firmer sole?

Wide-stance crank arms, e.g., on Bacou eBikes. Also good for people that have wider hips.

Great video, re: saddles . i have had the same Brooks England flyer saddle for years, well polished and still looks like new on my R&M Supercharger GX , given that i do a lot of long distance touring, i would recommend the Ergon GP 5 comfort grips

Excellent as always. I recently purchased a Moustache Samedi Tandem your review certainly played a part in my purchase . I want to change some things saddles pedals also cut the width of the bars they are way to wide any advice of how much I should cut off also suspension i would like to stiffen what would be a safe pressure limit. Most of our cycling is on roads and occasional cycle paths any advice would be most welcome.

Useful. I'm an upright tight rider most of the time. The "sporty" saddles kill me, and make the ride miserable. Always trying to find the right saddle that balance comfort (most important) with performance.

soft saddles are great for short distance commuting, but the longer you spend on a soft gel saddle the more you will stick to it and experience chaffing and saddle sores..my choice for my ebike is a Brooks B17 Narrow saddle, a firm leather saddle that initially feels hard but the longer the ride, the more comfortable it is, the Brooks is a firm leather saddle which allows you to move around without sticking to it and can be tension-adjusted which allows for the natural stretch of the leather.

Ian Fisher you mean soft saddles, are you referring to those memory foam saddles which can be compressed? It’s best to get hard saddles for Long ride?

@@winsonlimofficial yes correct, Iv'e found that those memory foam type saddles initially feel great but after a few hours the foam has compressed and i'm stuck to it and sitting on the plastic base, that's when it gets painful. Many touring cyclists use a Brooks leather saddle, so, I bought one and it initially feels very hard but the longer the ride, the better it gets...mine is a Brooks B17 narrow saddle.

Ian Fisher I’m still deciding whether to get the Brooks B17 imperial or the Ergon ST Core Prime. I will be riding all day around 10hrs a day for my work and most probably 6 days a week.

Another very informative video from Chris! If you have sensitive sciatica like me I can highly recommend the Brooks Flyer Imperial leather saddle. With a standard saddle I only last 60km 37mls a day. With the Brooks Flyer I can travel 134km 83mls. Incidentally, the spiral springs on the Brooks leather saddle serve to dampen the hip movement and not the actual suspension, which is why I also installed a Thudbuster ST. This combination may be too heavy for a normal bike, perfect on my pedelec. Greetings from Germany!

I treated myself to an RM Superdelite Gx with belt drive after watching your review - just wondering if I should order some street tyres for fast commute and then change them over at the weekends when I hit the trails? Or more hassle than it’s worth?

Very helpful video, well done. To confirm, is it possible to order a RM with a GP5 handle? Wondering if that would enable an upright riding position depending on the handle rotation back toward the rider?

Glad you liked the video. It’s not possible to order the bike with a GP5 grip but we can easily swap them in the shop. Angling the stem will get you an upright position but the GP5 grips can give you some other hand position options as well.

Chris - perfect explanation of why an upright seating position is such an advantage on an e-bike, especially a city bike style e-bike. Initially, I thought the saddle that came with my R+M Nevo felt a little firm (Selle Royal Lookin 3D Moderate Man, I think?), but like Chris said, after a while firmer feels good and glad I stuck with it. I also have the Kinekt seat post and it is by far my favorite suspension seat post. Perfect for riding in the city where there are lots of dips and bumps in the pavement, not to mention outright potholes. I did hear that Cane Creek recently revamped their Thudbuster ST seat post with a new elastomer that has a removable "plug". The original Thudbuster ST was decent, but a little stiff. I wonder if we can retrofit our old Thudbuster ST's with the new elastomer? Not mentioned are suspension forks - those add a lot of comfort to a city bike too.

When you are sitting on your saddle, you should be able to put the arch of your foot on the pedal and straighten your leg. When you put ball of your foot on the pedal during normal pedalling, you will have a slight bend to your knee when pedaling. Make sure you aren't rocking your hips when you are setting the height of your saddle. Your saddle height has nothing to do with being able to put your feet on the ground when stopped.

First the seat is called a saddle , why? well because like a saddle you should your weight on your feet and not your butt. It is not your recliner or your adjustable car seat. When you see some uneven ground ahead stand up flex your knees. or you can spend a fortune for a big cushy seat which adds weight to the bike. Just get out there and ride. Thanks for all the articles . I am riding a Ride1Up 700 now and being riding since the 50's first bike was a kids truck bike, At 12 I got a gazelle english racer styled 3 speed with that internal floating gear box in the rear hub( used to slip once in a while while was not fu)n but I loved that bike. until the Bungalow Bar truck back up on it (back in the North Bronx, in 67'. Good evening: I recently bought one of the first R&M bikes sold in Chile, the Supercharger and it's a wonderful eBike. Do you have any advice for a mirror that has a minimum of vibrations while riding?

Will putting Tannus Armour tire inserts into my 4”x20” tires make much of a difference? I ride on cobblestones and the bike has no suspension.

You didn't mention anything about the pitch of the saddle. Do you have any advice about adjusting the pitch of the saddle (tilt forward and backward)?

just bought a stem riser (aka steerer extender) for my new ebike due to neck problems that don't allow me to cran my neck up... hoping I don't need to buy other handlebars.

If you need to higher your bars more than a couple of inches you will need to lengthen your cables also

sore back if Im force to ride over a big bump, I just lift my butt up some for my body weight not fully on the seat to lessen the impact shock.. now if the seat all the way back on the post, you'll feel the hit more, the ratio and leverage from rear axel to seat clamp, shorter distance harder the hit.. Remember to lift off weight off seat or lean forward. • bar and stem I like a short center to center stem steer tube to bar, faster response to make the cockpit longer raiser bar twist forward or ahead of stem center out performance a longer stem, if stem to long turning corners has a slow and long wide feel. as I steer using my knee same as if riding look mom no hands. Now if doing a wheelie I use my neck wheel control off ground, balancing act. • snow days nice fresh powdered 4-6" or 80-140mm thin tires cuts right into it, now rubber on pavement, BMX or tall bars, I case the front washes out, the height I have now, more time to react and adds distance away from the stem, or get studded tires Ride Easy bjo

Thanks! I would recommend looking at Riese & Müller Charger3 or the Supercharger2. They have a heavy duty package with moves the max weight to 353lbs. Most of their bikes are good to about 300lbs though. Feel free to shoot us an email if you want to talk more or I’m happy to also hop on a call.

I have a ridgeback pedal bike, but the seat is excruciating, and the handlebars seem so far away. Bad choice, 10 years a go..

I’m not familiar with those ones. I would recommend a bike with a strong frame and wider tires. You can always swap the seat.
