@@PageTurningProducts you are such a joy to watch! I wanted to be sure I gave you accurate information, even only about soda, so I looked it up and I guess they still make the stuff and it’s been around since 1924. Wow even before my time! I only remember it because on the TV show MASH the character Radar would drink it especially when he was out for a night of hard core drinking! LOL Anyway keep up the great videos! I love your enthusiasm. I am very happy to see someone who is also caring enough to do something as difficult as Nursing is, especially in the times we live in!! Good luck and God bless you in all that you do!!

What temp do you mix your mica in at? I'm finding my powder doesn't dissolve and sets on the bottom of my melt

So mica pigments won't dissolve completely. They just get dispersed really well throughout the wax. That's why in the second one you see me stir it around, but I noticed if it's cooler it doesn't drop as fast

Practice makes perfect, try adding the mica at different cooling temperatures (monitor with thermometer) eventually you will find your ‘sweet-spot’ temperature for when to add the mica to the wax you use.

Hi! So I watched your video last night. I tried to add dye to my wax along with mica like you did and. Whoa what a mess i had! The dye somehow all sunk to the bottom of my silicone mold but the wax hardened over top. Purple dye inside. Is there a certain kind of dye we are supposed to use? I used soap dye. The same kind i use in my melt and pour soaps. Help! Thank you!!

  • @PageTurningProducts

So soap dye is water based and you cannot use that in candles. You're going to want to get some candle dye! I hope that helps!!

If you are making fragranced wax melts, add the mica to the fragrance in a small cup (cardboard shot glasses work great!) Mixy mix then add to your wax at 180-185°f (for the fragrances sake) and again stir generously.

Ok..so the video maker is definitely not a candle maker...mica is not the best option for soy wax. Wax color chips is the way to go...the video maker started in several to add mica in colder wax ... then here states that it doesn't matter. Lol couldn't be further from the truth. Yes...adding mica when wax is cooler is much better. It will work...however. if you are making pretty little tarts to sell...this is a no. You'll see specks of mica and that shows that the scent inside will not yield in the room. So no one will want them or find out they paid for just wax

I didn’t catch the temperature of the wax when you added mica for the second and third time? Many thanks in advance for your answer! I use Mad Micas too. I researched micas and want to toot Mad Mica’s horn here!! This is why I choose Mad Mica’s over ANY other mica supplier. Mad Mica has never and will never, test their products or their individual ingredients/raw materials on animals. They also expect a certification from any supplier or manufacturer whom they know to participate in any form of animal testing or cruelty. All products are 100% vegan. This includes refusing to carry any products colored using carmine. Their sources are exclusively from ethical supply lines. In addition they require declarations from all suppliers stating no minors participate in mining, factory work, transportation or any other process involved in the production of anything they carry. Lastly, their transport supply chain consists exclusively of major carriers like FedEx, UPS, and DHL and thus is free of forced or child labor. We are very pleased they have these requirements and certificates in place. This is a company that has the the ethics and virtues I greatly respect! Thank you so much for this video! I love the 2nd and 3rd resulting colors and look forward to your answer for the wax temps each time.❤

I don't change the wax temperature for adding the mica to the wax. So, each time the temperature use the same. Mica doesn't behave differently based on the temperature. Thanks for the question!

I’ve tried adding mica, but I believe I added it when the wax was too hot. I’ve seen other videos and they suggest around 160 degrees so it doesn’t sink to the bottom. You let the mica / dye set for a certain amount of time, so the wax would cool before pouring, so the temperature actually is important. That information would be helpful to other chandlers. I’m going to try adding mica, after color and FO, then drop my temperature probe inside the pouring pot.
