How to make Valheim's Tasty Mead - easy at home recipe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Everybody's playing Valheim, the new Viking game set in an afterlife. A big part of the game is the building and crafting mechanism, which, wouldn't ya know it, includes making mead! There are a ton of mead recipes to make: Poison Resistance Mead, Minor Stamina Mead, Medium Stamina Mead, Minor Health Mead, Medium Health Mead, and Frost Resistance Mead. But we chose the one made with blueberries, raspberries, and honey: the Tasty Mead. In this video we converted the recipe for real-world proportions and brewed up a batch to try. Turns out, it was excellent! We hope you enjoy this video on how to make mead from Valheim!

    You can, of course, sweeten with fermentable sugars, use one plastic bottle, check it daily for firmness, then pasteurize the bottles and they won't explode. I can always taste artificial and non-sugar sweeteners, so that's the way for me. Or wait until the yeast are completely done and back sweeten then.

    I circled back to this one after the latest Palette Expander episode. This sounded good at first viewing, but hearing MMM and you both rave about how good it was I had to try it. Instead I started 3 version this weekend. First used 1/2 lb raspberry, 1/2 lb blueberry, and 1/2 lb blackberry with everything else following the recipe. Second was 1 1/2 lbs of strawberries per my wife's request, adding 1/8 tsp grape tannin as this one is missing the skins of the main recipe's berries. Lastly is 1 lb mango, 1/2 lb pineapple, also with 1/8 tsp tannin and used Cotes de Blanc yeast. Hopefully in a month I can get back to you on the results. Just love the quick summer fruit drink idea.

    So I had half a jug of crystallized honey. I knew this wasn't a big deal, I just needed to warm it up, and it would be fine. But I foolishly just added a cup or 2 of really hot water to the jug. So now I'm worried I compromised the stability of the honey. I also didn't get all the chunks melted, but I'll worry about that once I've solved this problem. Is there a reliable test to know if I've spoiled my honey?

    Why the artificial sugar?

  • @DointheMost

    @DointheMost

    It’s not artificial - it’s a plant-based compound called a sugar alcohol. Yeast cannot eat it, so the brew remains sweet. If using a fermentable sugar like glucose/sucrose/fructose the yeast will eat it and you’ll be back at square one. Or worse, have exploding bottles.

    @@DointheMost isin't that the kind of sugar that is usually used in atkins or other low carb chocolate? Does it taste like regular sugar? I've made bottle bombs before, lol. Not fun when you have two cases of bottles of cider explode in the basement. What a mess.

    @@captainbashir5174 Yeah my understanding is that it’s keto/diabetic friendly. In drinks I can’t taste the difference between erythritol and cane sugar. It seems to be the best sugar replacement that I have found so far, though some people recommend allulose.
