In this video I will walk you through how to make your GNOME Desktop look like MacOS Ventura, Monterey, or Big Sur (they all look the same, but have different wallpapers). If I find a way to make it look even more like MacOS, I'll post a new updated video on that.
How to make Ubuntu look like MacOS Ventura, Big Sur, or Monterey. Although I am using Ubuntu 22.04, any Linux OS with GNOME will work. This video is meant to make GNOME LOOK like Mac OS, but not necessarily act like it. I might create a video in the future on how to make it act more like mac. Anyway, this video will include installing a Mac theme on Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish, or your Linux Distro. This video will also help you learn more about the GNOME Shell and GNOME Customization to make it look more like Mac.

@@AF-Tech I've noticed that dragging other windows when a video is playing is extremely laggy. seems to be an issue with gnome. do you also have this issue and did you manage to fix it?
@AF-Tech
Жыл бұрын
@Nelson Fleig No, I do not have this issue while playing any type of videos. Since I have never experienced this before, I can only guess. Maybe a RAM, CPU, or Graphics Card issue? Try going to system monitor > resources and see if there's a spike in cpu usage or RAM while playing videos compared to when you're not. Also, are you using Xorg or Wayland? Could also be due to a hungry extension, or too many Extensions? (I'm also assuming you're using 22.04). I can only guess so far

Just dropping a comment, I think you did a really good job here. I'm actually running Ubuntu 24.04 on a 5K iMac from late 2015, as Monterey will be out of support this fall. Since I personally can run macOS as a dual boot, I like to do something different for Linux, but I still appreciate the effort people have put into theming linux to look like the macOS. Ironically, you themed for Monterey, and Monterey is the last officially supported version of macOS for this iMac model. I am curious though have you used macOS officially? I was just curious how many people who want to their their OS like it, have officially used the real thing? Either way have a great day, and again, great Job :)

Could I suggest a follow up video on tweaking the 🍎look still further?

Can you decrease the the distance of dock from base/bottom, also the icon zoom on hover. I tried an extenstion to zoom, it did but wasn't perfect and changes launchpad icon. The other thing is that some apps like btorrent and others doesn't follow the theme.
@AF-Tech
Жыл бұрын
To decrease and increase the distance, you can try an extension called Floating Dock. I'm not sure if the GNOME Dock supports the icon zoom, but you can install another dock like Plank that supports it and then add the Mac theme. The icons not following the theme is because the person who made the icon theme didn't create icons for them. You can install a different icon theme if you want, or add the icons yourself. Feel free to reply for further questions.

Any idea how to get the vertical view of folders in Dolphin (the file manager)?
@AF-Tech
Жыл бұрын
Dolphin isn't a GNOME file manager. Nautilus is. Nautilus is the default Ubuntu file manager, and you get Dolphin with KDE desktops. I don't have much experience with Dolphin since I just recently started learning about KDE, but in Nautilus it's pretty easy to click the button. Here's something I found on dolphin, if this is what you mean. "Click Edit > Preferences.On the Views tab, select the List View viewing option next to "View new folders using:" and click close."
my shell buttons doesn't change when i select theme
@AF-Tech How much space would it require? For this Overall setup, coz I allocated 20GB space for my root partition. Is this enough to customize?

@qcap For clarification: you edited the theme and it's not applying for some apps? If that's what happened, try restarting the gnome shell a few times (alt f2 or fn alt f2). Things like this happen to me, and they eventually fix for no apparent reason. It just takes a few restarts of the shell, the computer, and even the apps that have the problem. Or are you saying that these apps have never worked for any themes whatsoever?

Google Chrome has their own buttons and you can't really change it since they're proprietary. You COULD right click on the title bar and select "use system title bar" which does take up more space but does make it more uniform.
