You nailed it! And gotta love the old iron equipment. I have a pre-WWII Atlas which I wouldn't trade for a brand new Jet or Grizzly. I just uploaded a video on my channel of me turning the perfect egg, only took 3 minutes but no sanding so a bit rough.

Fantastic turning... awful music...id personally rather hear the lathe

How to should have some instructional dialogue. Seemed to all be done with a skew, but sometimes the tip and sometimes the back edge. Different heights on the tool rest. New to this stuff, so, why?

Try to fix the workpiece better. Perhaps you are moving the workpiece with a chisel. Exercise more. Pay attention to exactly how I hold the chisel. Let me know if you managed it. I will be happy to help solve your question. Good luck!

Why cheat the chickens?

can't second guess the sanding, but it should all be accomplished when you first sanded, makes no sense to then cut the attaching end of the egg down to a pencil or less thickness and then go to doing a bunch more sanding on the entire egg. Only that attached end would or should require sanding as the paring down with the skew chisel is performed.
