How to make the perfect dress!
Download the free pattern I have made just for this tutorial here: bit.ly/33Og2lM
Or purchase my full pattern (sizes 4-24) now: www.roseryapparel.com/rosa
How to print the pattern:
The pattern is an A0 document so can be printed as such at your local copy shop. You can purchase the A4 'tiled' version of the pattern here: www.roseryapparel.com/rosa
There is a test square on the pattern you can measure to make sure the pattern is printed to the correct scale.
Amount of fabric needed for dress: 2.5-3 metres (2.73-3.28 yards)
The fabric I used: bit.ly/2m7mS5W
A note on sizing:
Size S = 8-10 Aus
Size M = 12-14 Aus
Size L = 16-18 Aus
Find the measurements for each size here: www.roseryapparel.com/sizing-1

Thank you! Remember my Mom made this dress for all us girls, and herself from flour sacks she collected. Neighbors gave them to her also. She too made the pattern. Added lace, for Sunday best. Also embroidery on added collars or sleeves. She was so clever. Raised 13 kids, 4 of those were neighbors. I never heard her complain. She sang beautiful love songs or hymns as she cooked, cleaned, or hung many lines of clothes to dry. Removing our dresses while still damp to press them. Amazing.

I am wearing my dress, which I finished yesterday :-) Thank you so much for uploading!! Some advice for those giving it a go: - cutting the fabric pieces along the grain-line of the fabric - if you have less than a B-cup the darts aren't really needed, but if you leave them out the pattern doesn't line up fully, so I had to recut some areas. I made a sleeveless version with a bodice, as shown in another video and it worked out well! Great tutorial, thanks so much for sharing.

@@eve9490 Hi! I tried to find it but it's been a little while so I can't remember. I thought it was a Rosary Apparel video but I couldn't find it here. You can search it on youtube "sleeveless bodice with lining" and there will be loads of videos. From memory, what I did was: - create a second replicate bodice (which is your lining) and eventually hide all rough/ overlocked edges between the two bodice pieces by turning it inside out. - I think it was all flipped using the "burrito method" 😄 - You don't need the neckline, as you will have a beautifully tucked in edge around the neck (because of the lining). Good luck & have fun! It's a really pretty dress, which I wear often. I might chuck a pic on Insta sometime soon! xx

Janelle , I am not sure if you will read this but I love your videos! Watching you grow over time has given me so much inspiration and confidence to try sewing new things and continue to expand my wardrobe ethically. I am sewing this currently with some wool and one of the gathered sleeve patterns you released! The bodice is great, but I didn't think of how thick the skirt would be and it's HUGE. Once I make those changes though I am so excited to wear it out!

Hi Janelle! My friend and I are super excited to try this DIY out. We have downloaded the PDF and found some lovely material at our local op shop. We are now a bit lost as to how to correctly print the pattern as there isn't a test square on the PDF. We also aren't able to locate the blog post on your website. We would love a follow up video about how to print the pattern if possible or a new blog post. Thankyou! Love your videos and store xx

Hi Maddy! A test square on the PDF is a great idea that I hadn’t thought of, I will update it to include one. For now though, it is an A1 sized document so it should work if you print at that size. Also another tip for printing is to select ‘print at actual size’. I hope this helps, and happy sewing! 💕

There are several sizes included in the pattern and there is one for sale in her shop that includes a greater range of sizes. Print the pattern using a pdf viewer and select tiling or poster when printing out. This will print it out at the right size over multiple pieces of paper.

Hello Janelle, I sewed a dress using your pattern and it turned out so cute! I dropped the neckline a little bit and added tulip sleeves, this was my first time using non-stretch fabric, I have always found it too daunting to tackle zippers and darts, but your pattern was so easy to work with that I finally had the courage :D the fit is perfect and I can’t wait to sew a couple more for summer! I'd love to try making this dress. Am seriously pissing myself, though, as the last time I tried to sew anything using a sewing machine was more than 30 years ago and only extended to shortening a couple of trousers. Dress? Nope. Mum once tried to teach me (I was about ten) and I stomped off in a major meltdown over the fiddly bits. No patience. That said: is it difficult to change the opening to the front, and then using hooks or little buttons...? I know, I should probably not attempt to make any changes when it's the very first thing I try...

It is possible! If you’re experienced with changing up patterns you could add 3-4 cm to the bodice centre piece and not cut on the fold and change the facing piece to add enough space to add buttons. I think I might make a video about how to change the pattern for different styles maybe, as it would look really cute with buttons down the front! 😊

You could perhaps do 2 side zips at the sides lining up with the bust too, or even invisible zips down the dart lines (and extend them higher). Although that could be more difficult.
