Is that actual silver for wire?

For this project it's silver colored wire, not sterling silver, however you can absolutely make this project with sterling silver wire if you wanted to.
Why not cut off a 2” piece of wire and start the loop closer to the end so as not have to cut off the wire and eliminate waste?

You can definitely do that. Some people are more comfortable with longer tails for wrapping (myself included), so I tend to show it a little longer. If a shorter tail works for you, then definitely go ahead with that.
Why don’t you show a picture of what they look like finished?! I don’t see anything!
