    Thank you so much Jen, your explanation for not losing the points on the edge is excellent. And ensuring that there is enough fabric for this to happen. Just a beautiful pattern and fabric. Thanks also for the heads up on the shimmery fabric being heat resistant. I was always worried about sewing with them, and the losing the beauty of the fabric. Hugs, Chel 🌸

    I made this but I ironed all the light color toward the darker colors, whether the tan or the green and red. They still nested, but there is no shadow of the darker color on the cream.

    So, I do have another question for you. The top after adding the inner and outer borders, but before adding the binding is about 22.5 inches wide and 62.25 inches long. According to the pattern instructions, I cut the back to be 67 X 27. After adding the layers together, do I just cut the excess off the back? Or, is the extra still used somehow? I'm almost impressed with how I did with this. Thanks

  • @ShabbyFabrics

    @ShabbyFabrics

    Woohoo!! We're so glad you're enjoying this project. Do not cut off the excess fabrics until after you've quilted this, before you put the binding on. Hope this helps! -Michelle

    @@ShabbyFabricsOkay. So, the excess on the back is sort of expected, or at least not anything to be concerned with?

  • @ShabbyFabrics

    @ShabbyFabrics

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes, it does happen, but you'll notice when you quilt the layers together that the fabric "shrinks" a bit due to the stitching. You'll want to wait to trim it until it's been quilted. Then, you can trim it before you put your binding on. -Michelle

    Regarding batting: What thickness and should it also be 100% cotton? I have the squares all sewn together, and realized I intended to wait on the batting until I was a little further along.. Here i am, a little further along. Thanks

  • @tightwaddad

    @tightwaddad

    I think I got it figured out. I got 100% cotton just in case something really hot is set on it. Since I didn't know if there is a specific size for thickness, I went into the store so I could touch it. I guess I got a "low loft" for thickness? I wanted it to have some padding, but, did not want it too thick, so there is less chance a normal drinking glass would tip over. I have not been able to find out if there is a specific system determining the thickness of batting. Some of the fabric I used for some of the squares are a cheaper metallic cotton fabric since this is my first time trying this. If it turns out well, I will try another with better fabric. I had a little trouble catching on to following the pattern instructions. I had some trouble trying to figure out where to place the different squares. My print out was only in black, but used the pdf to figure out where each of the square patterns went. On my print out, I labeled the green (black/gray) squares, G1 . . . G8, with G1 being the single squares on each end. I labeled the red squares, R1 . . . R3, with R1 being the two in the center and worked my way out. I set out all the green squares in order, after I decided which would be the G1 on each end. I set out the red squares in order, after I decided which would be the two center R1 squares. I just washed the batting and the fabric for the back. I hope to finish this one tomorrow.
