I'm a visual learner, so I love watching the ATK videos, especially the Gingerbread Cake. I know a ginger lover whose birthday is in August, so a frosting that doesn't weep, and an impressive-looking cake that is as simple to make as a batch of muffins and is full of punchy ginger flavour? I'm sold! Next special occasion/birthday cake ... found.

My grandmother used to make the most delicious date nut cake. I think I'll give your version a try -- I still have her pudding molds to use! However, since what I loved about it was that it wasn't very sweet, I'll skip the toffee sauce. She just sprinkled hers with a little powdered sugar which looked inviting but added little extra sugar. Thanks!

I love my electric kettle that you see in British shows. It boils very quickly so when I want to cook something on the stove like green beans I fill it and then pour the boiling water into the pot. Saves me some time.

I am making this cake for my husband’s birthday. But when I made the first batch using 1 1/3 cup per pan there was only enough batter for a scant cup in each of the other layers. If I make this again I will use only a cup and 2 tbsp batter per pan or I will bake Two layers and slice them. What might I have done wrong to have too little batter?

Archway still makes those cookies I think. Taste is similar to black liquorice but more peppery. The Archway cookies are rolled in powdered sugar, but there used to be another brand that had something like a royal icing that got a little crunchy. They were great but I have not seen them in years.
