How to make stained glass Christmas tree ornaments - assembly line

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I show you how to make stained glass Christmas tree ornaments in an assembly line method to save time and increase your profits. Time is money and creating several of the same item at one time increases your profit margin. Don't forget, you make an hourly wage and that needs to be added to the cost of creating your product. Christmas in May.. getting a head start on the holiday season.

    I hear ya! Although there are some who are making a living with it on Etsy. With regard to pricing, double your cost and add for your time. Don't forget to pay yourself what you feel you are worth per hour. Some people under charge, but they are selling themselves short. Doing decorative soldering makes your suncatchers more interesting. And, you will have more success with sales. I'm always looking for ways to make my work different. But, most important, is that you have fun with it! Have a happy Easter!!

    I've been wanting to learn how to make stained glass for several years now. I forgot when or where I learned the steps involved, but I never had the equipment to try. This video is great, a good refresher for my swiss cheese memory. I'd like to try my hand at it some day, but I don't have the space, time or money to invest in a hobby like this. For me it would be a hobby, sadly the items I currently have listed for sale are selling. Nor were items I had years ago. I switched to print in demand to avoid having inventory but something like this I can do as a hobby, give the pieces to friends and family. Might be a good thing to look into when I finally retire.

    Grinding the edges makes a nice surface for the foil to adhere to. Also keeping everything clean and trying not to handle the glue side of the foil with your fingers will help. Give them another try, they are fun to make and also make great gifts for co-workers, friends and family. :)

    Hi Roberta, I have a link to the charms that I use in the description below the video. They are made with metals that you can use flux and solder on. With these ornaments, I usually hang the charms on the tinned wire before I solder the tinned wire on. So no soldering is required to put the charms on. However, you can tack solder the charms on as well.

    Hi Carol, most people use the suction cups for small sun catchers. I think the quality of the cups is key. I've had one on my window for months with no problems. The larger suncatchers and windows are hung with small hooks in the window frame. Most people don't want anything permanent like that.

  • @artbycherylann8431

    @artbycherylann8431

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sharon, I have not had that problem. I always grind my edges, then wash my pieces with dawn dish detergent. You need to make sure that the glass is completely dry and then you can foil your pieces. If you make sure that there are no oils or dust on your edges, you probably won't have this problem. The other issue also may be old foil. If your foil has been sitting for a long time, it may lose its sticky strength. You might try a new coil of foil. I hope this information helps.

    I use a separate sponng for my stained glass work using Dawn dishsoap. Scrub in all the nooks and crannies to be sure to remove the flux. Otherwise, the flux could damage the glass if you leave it on for too long. Then, give your pieces a polish with carnuba wax or at least polish them with Pledge. This will prevent your solder from changing color over time. Happy Holidays!

    I actually bought them in Hobby Lobby and they have lasted a very long time. They protect my hands from any hot solder that may fall.

    Hi Jim, most people don't mind paying $10.00 each. You might be able to get a little more depending on where you live. They are a simple design and can be done quickly.
