Ma’am. All I gots to say is, I made this exact recipe for thanksgiving yesterday, and I changed a lot of peoples minds about sweet potatoes for the better. My 73 year old grandmother LOOOOOVED them and she is the main cook for our family! Also, my uncle did NOT like sweet potatoes at all and he said those were some of the best ones he’s had. The ONLY candied yams recipe I use. So easy and so good. I’ve made this so many times. Today I ran out of vanilla, and used a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead. Babyyyy them yams was “sopped up” and good. Great recipe!

My grandmother always made them this way. I’ve been making them this way for a few decades now, and they never disappoint! Love that you make it the old school way. Can’t stand no in the oven “candied yams.”

I have a testimony: I was a bit skeptical when I saw this candied yams recipe(I’m from South Africa originally so we never cook sweet potato like this) then I made this today exactly the way you did with your Lemon pepper spatchcock chicken and Your collard greens recipe and some cornbread. Girl I’m telling you it was all “sopped up”. My husband and I called it “Pre-thanksgiving” meal. It was so good!!!! I love cooking with your recipes sis. God bless you!!! Made these yesterday for Easter dinner. Super easy and delicious. I added 1/4 cup of chopped pecans for texture.

This is the first time I saw my nana’s recipe and almost to a tea.Except we don’t add water we add just a sprinkle of flour thru the layers.And it makes it so it truly is a thickened candied yam.Just the way we love it.

My grandma made candied gravy too BY ADDING FLOUR😊 but she used Karo Syrup n brown sugar. The Karo is made with the vanilla extract also she add Bourbon or spiced Rum with the butter....

Oh praise the Lord, I found you! I watched this video back when we are all in COVID lockdown, and I made this sweet potato recipe for my immediate family that Thanksgiving. Lady, it was the BEST thing we ever tasted, hands down! We're having Thanksgiving for our grown kids today, and I realized I had never saved this video. Took me forever to find it, but I wasn't ABOUT to make anybody's recipe but YOURS. To everyone else, trust the process. You are going to want stir it, but DO NOT DO IT. For your patience, you will be rewarded with the most old school delicious caramelized sweet potatoes you've ever had in your life, I promise. Can't wait to dig into these in a couple hours. My mom typically does not eat yams but when I made this she came back for 2nd to 3rds! This will be a staple in my household. The whole pan was nearly gone less than a day!!! It was that good. LOVELY recipe😋.

I just made these and it's the first time I've ever cooked fresh sweet potatoes and they are so good. Make sure you dry them before you cook them because she's telling the truth about them putting off a lot of water. This is a great recipe
