How to Make Silicone Molds (A MUCH better updated version)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My other two silicone making videos are incredibly long and I ramble on and on about every little thing. Their intended purpose was to help complete beginners, but I believe I confused more than I helped. This video is much much simpler and gets straight to the point. This is what I should have uploaded from the get go. If you've sat through those other videos...sorry. Lol.
WHERE TO BUY SILICONE:
Smooth-On: www.smooth-on.com/products/
Brick in the Yard: www.brickintheyard.com/
TAP Plastics: www.tapplastics.com/product/m...
There are plenty of other places to purchase from. These are just a few. I suggest looking on other sites, like eBay and Amazon, to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Brenda Nurre KZread usually has a captions option on a lot of videos if its available & you press the three dots, usually on one of the top corners & most videos will let you choose captions in a number of languages. Although its pretty funny to read what it says cos of how inaccurate it is, but it's there if there's talking.

Hi, I think you’ll really struggle to use a silicon mould and fill it with silicon as it will just stick to itself and will become inseparable. Is she really wanting the little dolls to be made out of silicon? Perhaps you could pour something else into your silicon mould as an alternative. I think it’s not an easy thing to make silicon toys mainly because they are 3D and not flat like these moulds, if you get what I mean? X

Mind if I jump in? Tell me if it's not welcome, I tend to be annoying like this in real life too. People asking what products: Impossible to answer unless you want to know what she used in the video, which she's shared. I found CraftyLefty's videos while looking for silicones, but I'm making molds and the things I'm making from the mold will also be silicone. Long story, but I need to know how much flex is in different types so I watch these videos and wait for the part where I see the person bend it. Now that you know this lefty's situation, I'm going to try and assist in getting some info to you so you can learn on your own and make fewer mistakes than if you hadn't seen this video. 1)You WILL make mistakes 2) Nobody I know who has a creative drive has money to burn. She posted this video to help people, and she has. If you just want to come on here to make people feel responsible for your budget, you might want to rethink some things. 3) See #1 ☺I have some experience with silicone (a rubber) and urethane (also rubber). I don't like urethane so I don't use it. ☺I haven't cast resin, I've done wax and plastic and will be casting silicone into silicone molds. ☺She put a link to SmoothOn here, that's who I've purchased through and they have a page where you can send questions and they give detailed answers, but be specific and detailed with your questions. I usually get answers in less than 24 hours. ☺SmoothOn has a youtube channel with lots of videos/tutorials. Subscribe to it. If you're looking for food-safe silicone, that's where you'll find videos, and there's a search box on their website that you can type "food safe" into. The product descriptions are very detailed and 'food safe' is usually at the bottom of the first paragraph on the product page ☺Find and DL a 'durometer shore hardness chart'. Do an image search or find the one on SmoothOn's site. That chart is priceless, I'll give you a for instance. CL mentioned the OOMOO silicone. I've used the OOMOO30. The number in the product is most often the Shore Hardness. The lower the number, the softer the silicone--but note there's a letter before the number so look in the correct column. In this case, the Shore is OO30. The one in the above video is A15. Looking at the chart, OO30 has the feel & flex of a gel shoe insole (and that's exactly what it feels like. Squishy, and tears relatively easy). the A15 is up the scale so it's harder; feel & flex of a rubber band. I learned this by reading and trial/error. Just like you will, just like CraftyLefty did. After you learn, pay it forward because someone will be in the shoes you're in right now. And if they criticize you for not giving them the answers they want or not making their life less expensive? Come find me and I'll write something for them. Now go make something that's never been made before.

Jackie Sullivan Thanks for this info! I found the chart and that helps a lot, especially when in regards to the different sizes of items I need molds for and how easy/difficult it may to to unmold an item with no give.

When I pour epoxy with my counter projects I use a torch and a heat gun to pop the bubbles and it works super good for epoxy. I wonder if the heat gun would work for the silicone? That way if it is flammable the heat gun may pop the bubbles with heat without risking a fire??? Idk, keep a fire extinguisher close and do it outside? Can anyone confirm this theory if it works? Thanks for teaching us how to make a mold, I need to make some epoxy stars for a flag build I'm doing.

We used to do it a lot at school by using the laser cutter, you draw the shape on a computer program then send it to the laser printer and it cuts on the lines with a laser. Looks to me to be 6mm acrylic she is using. You could also use a jigsaw and cut the acrylic by hand although this won’t get you as smooth a piece as using a laser cutter. Some companies have laser cutters and they cut custom things out for you but it’s not too cheap! Maybe you can buy them somewhere, search for acrylic shapes perhaps? Or you things lying around that you want to duplicate by making a mould of it, good luck!

Go to a trophy shop or laser engraving place and they can cut what you want. They can even do dimensional cuts for depth. Just in “laser engraving in *add you city and state* then hit enter. Call some of those places. You can get acrylic off line or at Lowe’s but it’s prices there.
