    THANK YOU. This video saved me $500. I live in a rural area served by only one cellular service. The signal dropped occasionally, so I bought a signal booster last year. All was well until the end of May. Calls started dropping, then didn’t complete at all. Texting was possible only intermittently. The cell company doesn’t accept calls about outages. Their map showed we have full 5G coverage, and they are satisfied with that. I spent today researching boosters and even diy cell towers. Then I got to thinking… what about wifi calling? I canceled my cellular company’s wifi service when I got Starlink internet. Could wifi calling work with Starlink? Then I found this video and was making clear calls in 5 minutes!

    If you want to test WiFi calling at home, and there is mobile coverage; the best way is to put the phone into aeroplane mode. This will then turn off cellular radios, and WiFi on the phone. You then need to turn on WiFi, and you should be able to get WiFi calling without cellphone coverage and make and receive phone calls over WiFi. As long as WiFi calling is set up, and you have WiFi coverage; as you explained in your video. Remember to turn off aeroplane mode when finished testing, so you can use your phone normally on the mobile network.

    Wait WiFi calling is possible without cell network? So why isn't possible without SiM? It does require cell network to locate through call destination, right?

    If you are in a foreign country would your cell phone still work? I would think so since you are using the internet??

    I’m not sure how this set up a work in other countries but I assume it would work. One thing to note is that Starlink does not allow roaming outside of the country the account is assigned to. As starlink gets more approval International roaming should enable soon.

    @@Random_How-tos OK... Now I am confused. As usual. Why would the cell phone provider need to support wifi if we have no wifi signal. We live in New Zealand and there is very weak phone signal here. I was hoping we could use our Starlink to make phone calls other than Skype/Messenger type... you know, to use a phone like you did.

    @@2nostromo I understand, is was confusing to me as well. Based on my last Internet search the only reason why the cell phone company needs to support Wi-Fi calling is so they can connect to your phone over the Internet (through Starlink) instead of the cell phone network. Most of the big carriers around the world support Wi-Fi calling. Wikipedia said something along the lines of ”Wi-Fi calling has been available in Denmark since 2016.” To be sure, contact your cell phone company or go on there website and ask if they support Wi-Fi calling. In the United States, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are the big companies that support Wi-Fi calling. Hopefully this was helpful and I made sense.

    What does something like this cost? And is it possible to do this without a dish?

  • @Random_How-tos

    @Random_How-tos

    Жыл бұрын

    As long as you have an Internet connection over Wi-Fi you can make Wi-Fi calls. All the dish does is provide a connection to the internet over a satellite. In other words, the dish isn’t necessary as long as you have an Internet connection. The dish was about $700 and $110 a month in the United States but I believe prices are much lower in South America and in other parts of the world. Hopefully this helps. :)

    How is the starlink internet while roaming? Do you think it's good enough for gaming or watching movies?

  • @Random_How-tos

    @Random_How-tos

    Starlink is definitely good for watching movies. But with gaming it depends, you shouldn’t have a problem most of the time but there will still be some hiccups here and there until they get more satellites launched.
