For those without allergies, millet may be a better fill option than salt. I have found that these balls are susceptible to breakage on the seam, which can allow the relatively fine grained salt to leak out. Millet has a similar density, but has a larger granular size; which makes it less prone to leakage from small fissures. Additionally, the loudness of the millet adds an aural feedback component and enhances overall satisfaction while juggling. Recently, I purchased a set of Chromium filled juggling balls from Renegade. Without a doubt this is the best fill material for endurance. Because of the relatively high density of the fill materiel, the dwell time can be significantly increased without increasing the pattern height. Yes, that's right. It makes juggling seven way easier.

Yes! Absolutely! This video isn't the absolute best way to make a durable russian ball by any means, but it's at the intersection of sturdy and quick! That's what we're after with the juggling ball project -- something that'll last around 20hrs of practice. For new jugglers tuning in: heed Stephen's advice! Also look into thicker shells (street hockey, et al), and find a tutorial that involves drilling and melting plastic to seal!

Salt seems expensive but I guess it’s still cheaper than sand.

Salt isn't too bad if you buy in bulk! The issue with bulk sand is that it often has moisture towards the center of a bag (unless we're talking kiln-dried sand for flower arranging/etc) - that can lead to issues with mold... Not ideal!

@@ThomWalljuggler I bought pool sand...$7 for 60 pounds...then baked it in my oven for 30 minutes at 400...removed all the moisture...worked great for me!
