" Just make sure you don't glue your hand down"..... Reminds me of the time I managed to CA glue a Bass Guitar I was working on to my hand. Sheepishly went to find my Wife for assistance, that went well. She was laughing so hard she couldn't get the lid off the bottle of acetone for 10 minutes. 15 years later she still brings that episode up whenever the subject of CA glue comes up. 🙄😆

I like to make contrasting color sticks. Just a bit of stain and now you can put whichever one shows up better on the backgroud in the back. Good if you have light walls and dark cabinets, for example.

Hi James. Thanks for the video. I had make a 2 foot pair of sticks I saw in one of your older videos and found this one yesterday so I went out today with my grandsons and we make a 3 1/2 foot pair like these. They love watching your videos with me and think we should build ever thing you make. Thanks again for the videos and the memories my grandsons and I are making.

My winding sticks are a 2m length of 20mm aluminium angle that I cut in half and then stuck some purple masking tape to the ends of one to make a contrast.

This was a fun one. I have two sticks of Rosewood (cutoffs from Marimba bars) that I got for baton handles that I use as winding sticks. Very useful.

My winding sticks are too short for wide boards as well, so I might be making some longer ones. I made my old ones many years ago in a hurry. Two random sticks of hardwood, one paler than the other. They don't match anywhere, different width, height, length and thickness. All that is required is that they are stable, straight, flat on the bottom, and of consistent height throughout the length. Works for me.

I made a pair of winding sticks as a first simple project. They soon became twisted and unusable. You say cut them from the same board, like bookends? Ah-ha, thanks for the tip James! …I’m heading back to the bench.

grain choice is important. they should have very strait grain and quarter sawn if possible. but if you resaw them from one board then any change will be the same on both boards.

Cool multi use sticks in the making. Could put in a screw bolt to lock the legs and then use them to measure internal or external gaps, I love things that can do more than one thing, if only I could do the same. LOL.

Fun video, nice useful project. I have been thinking of making a set of these myself. I'd planned on designing a 3d printable model for the feet. FYI as of Saturday 15:00 UTC your Tay tools link doesn't work (there's some extraneous stuff there at the beginning, and also along with the affiliate portion of the URL)

I’ve tried these style winding sticks several times over the years, and I found I really dislike them. Much too finicky, and not as accurate if your board isn’t already perfectly flat. Plus, I had one set that ended up cracking the feet when the center stick expanded in the humid season. Just my opinion, but I know others really swear by these
