    I know this is an old video so you'll probably never see this... But you make the absolute best knife tutorials on all of KZread. Thanks so much for all your effort. Please make more.

    Thank you for the video! The counterboring with a masonry bit is really clever and exactly what i needed. I'm looking to make scales for my pocket knife and this has got me started on the right track.

    Mike, I am a police officer in central Florida, and a knife creator enthusiast. I am no way a computer/internet guru, and I determined this comment thread to be the best way to contact you. I work as a motor cop (motorcycle) and we all (well, most of us) carry folding knives on our motor boots. I am sick and tired of carrying a garbage knife while on duty. How do I go about buying one of your knives? I find your passion and creativity for knife making absolutely captivating. Hope to be the proud owner of one of your folders in the near future.

    +TheLagwagon6040 I'm not much of an internet guru either so no worries there. So you attach the knives to your boots with the pocket clip or is it in a pouch of some sort? I haven't finished my locking folder prototypes just yet but they are in the works. I want to be sure that the design is up to par before I start selling them. The folders I make now have been all non-locking friction folders which likely isn't up to the task of an officer's duty knife. I plan on starting up a website to make the knives more readily available, but as of now I've been selling the majority of my work through Instagram on a first come first serve basis. I will be sure to make a video once they are ready and the website goes up. Thank you for watching and your service!

    +EKIM1428 Yeah, we carry the knives with the pocket clip facing out, at the top edge of the boot (Chippewa Police Motor Boots.) The actual knife rides inside the boot. I'd attach a pic but I don't think I can on the comment thread.

    Love your portaband setup. Almost identical to mine. lol. Got the saw in a vise clamp, and the vise clamp is clamped to the bench. Unfortunately my HF saw like yours took a crap. Got a Milwaukee on the way. Cool vid.

    Don't the 123 blocks have threaded holes? Can't you use them to use a mill type hold down to help prevent the knife from helicoptering? Might have to make something custom to that thread size though.

    great video..as usual...after making a shitload of removable handles I thought I have done/seen/heard every way of doing it...guess not...2to3 steps u mentioned will speed up my way of doing it for sure.THX. ..... a few notes from my side...u for sure know but didn't mention/use.....drillbits can be used instead of standoff all the way..especially when the standoff are not such a snug fit....counter sunk head screws can make life easier...especially on thinner handle material....and by using a counter sink there will be more meat left..i prefer them....to keep the screws/standoff from spinning while tightening make one screw shorter...screw it all the way in and use 2 screwdrivers....while u screw in the other screw u can hold everything in place...most of the time u don't even have to...oh n u can use a scribe instead of a sharpie so the outlines will be closer to the actual spine n u can grind the scales almost flush without messing it up...btw u got balls to make scales without taping the blade...have scratched so many finished blades that i always tape them up good now...just my thoughts ...keep the great videos coming...your followers (ha that sounds like out of the Kevin Bacon tv show)need more ..take care

    +Fred L Glad I could help streamline your process a little bit! Those are some great tips as well. I made some purpose built assembly pins but couldn't find them for the video. definitely a little easier then smacking standoffs with a hammer. I've been meaning to try some flat head screws too. My next order I'll make sure to pick some up and give them a go. Lmao the amateur knife maker colt following hahaha As far as taping goes, I tend to get grit under the tape somehow and scratch it up anyway so now I don't bother unless Its a tough finish to touch up. Thanks for watching!

    Wonder if you could do it without a drill press

  • @shmirginhymer1867
    @shmirginhymer18678 жыл бұрын

    Question: I've tried many times drilling holes at the exact size of the pins and its a pain trying to get them back out. So what I do now is use the appropriate letter or # drill larger for the pin. 1/8" - #30, 1/4" - F drill. And its worked great. But for this style handle, I see why they need to be tight. Could you explain how you get the standoffs out of the scales and blade without completely ruining them?

    Great video mate. How come you weren't using your milling machine? Wouldn't that give you a digital depth and make the job easier? I use a Bosch digital drill press and it makes life super easy as it has a clamp similar to what your fingers do so you can clamp it down firmly and use a digital depth and set up makes life super easy thanks for another sweet video could you do a video on brass bolsters etc would love it Thanks.

    +James M I would use my mill but I figure a lot of guys don't have one so it would be easier to follow using a more common machine. It would be easier and I clamp my stuff to some 123 blocks in the vise on the mill. I've never done bolsters before but I want to learn how, Once I do I'll definitely share what I've learned. Thanks for watching!
