How to Make Realistic Wired Wool Feathers (Method One)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This tutorial shares the technique I devised for making realistic looking wool feathers that contain a wire spine. The wire spine not only adds a natural detail to the feathers but also allows them to be posed in a variety of positions. I spent a long time thinking about how to achieve a thin, wired feather that could be made in multiple colours and in the end the solution I came up with was simple! These have a slight fluffy appearance and are great for adding to larger projects. The wire can be inserted and glued into position on needle felted sculptures too. Best felted feathers yet! Perfect timing for me to see this as I am making a very large Phoenix and this is brilliant, Thank You soooooo very much for sharing your talent with the rest of us! Can't wait to try it!!!
Really good enthusiastic instructor...thoroughly enjoyed watching how simple you made it all appear!! I’m sure it’s as good as the person making it, so we will all have to take a leaf out of your book and be confident! Look forward to more demonstrations...well done Elle! And many thanks! 🙋😘👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Helen in Norfolk. 🙋
Thank you! This is exactly what I need :3 (I don’t wanna use real feathers 😑)

This is a very helpful video! Because I dont really have the bonding fabric or the wool, do you think if I used brushed yarn and hot glue it would have the same effect?

hot glue probably will be a bit messy so in my opinion a better option is to get a stiffening fabric or something that bonds whit the other material sorry if you didn't want some randoms persons opinion
Wow super like this 😍😍

Hi Elle! Do you think i can do it with faux wool as well?

Hi Tammy, yes I think that would work. I cannot see why the fibers would not fuse to the bonding strip :)
Pure genius thank you so much!!!!!!

Hi Elle, m new to ur channel. I loved the way u explained everything in details but I don't know what that feathery thing is called. I can't understand, so can u pls help me telling the name of it. Thanks :-) .

Shivangani Shah hi! Which feathery thing do you mean? The wool fibres are merino wool and the bonding fabric is iron on hemming webbing. Let me know if its neither of those things! Elle :)

Elle Hunt thank u so much O:-)
can you say me the name of the piece of plastic you put inside the feather, please???
Can you use brushed yarn?
@TheWoolCoffinMaker

In all honesty I am not sure on this one! I would recommend experimenting. If the yarn is very chunky the second method using the No-Sew Heat'n'Bond may have a greater chance of success as its a stronger bonding glue. I would love to know how you get on if you do give it a go - Elle :)
Wonder wear ?
what's the name of this yarn?
How did you make the feather fibers?

the feather fibres are wool tops. You can purchase them online :)
great idea! I love it!
Can you use pipe cleaner wire as well
It is washable

I have never tried - the wire would be an issue perhaps but it could work by hand
I hope you make much more creative thinks
