How to Make Realistic Wired Wool Feathers (Method One)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This tutorial shares the technique I devised for making realistic looking wool feathers that contain a wire spine. The wire spine not only adds a natural detail to the feathers but also allows them to be posed in a variety of positions. I spent a long time thinking about how to achieve a thin, wired feather that could be made in multiple colours and in the end the solution I came up with was simple! These have a slight fluffy appearance and are great for adding to larger projects. The wire can be inserted and glued into position on needle felted sculptures too. This is a very helpful video! Because I dont really have the bonding fabric or the wool, do you think if I used brushed yarn and hot glue it would have the same effect?

  • @jadesketch1726

    @jadesketch1726

    hot glue probably will be a bit messy so in my opinion a better option is to get a stiffening fabric or something that bonds whit the other material sorry if you didn't want some randoms persons opinion

    Shivangani Shah hi! Which feathery thing do you mean? The wool fibres are merino wool and the bonding fabric is iron on hemming webbing. Let me know if its neither of those things! Elle :)

    In all honesty I am not sure on this one! I would recommend experimenting. If the yarn is very chunky the second method using the No-Sew Heat'n'Bond may have a greater chance of success as its a stronger bonding glue. I would love to know how you get on if you do give it a go - Elle :)
