In this project we show how to make a Pythagorean cup and how it works. A long time ago Pythagoras made this cup (also known as a Greedy Cup), that empties itself if too much drink is poured.
When the liquid is below a certain level, the cup is a simple container. Conversely, if the liquid exceeds this specified level, it will empty itself. This phenomenon is caused by siphon effect. Nowadays, various devices use siphon effect to achieve liquid transport, such as espresso machine, hand wash sink, and toilet. Similar to the porcelain cup, the siphon effect only works when the liquid level is above a threshold line, which is troublesome for liquid transport in tubes.
