Rather than hot glue (including the non-toxic sticks) you can use Elmer's non-toxic glue and if you find a water-based paint and you and your little furry friend should have no problems!

I have a tip for yah. According to my experience. When the female hamster just give birth to her litter, she becomes very aggressive. Because her natural instinct is to protect her young. Therefore, separate the mother hamster (and her young) from all the hamsters in the cage during this period. Because she will chase and fight all the hamsters in the cage. Because she thinks they're a threat to her young. And she will bit the other hamsters and eventually she may kill them. Put the mother hamster (and her young) in a separate cage. Until the babies are big enough and the mother is no longer aggressive, and comfortable enough to join the other hamsters.
