Cup also can be made after showing the leaf to fire. We call it dhonnai in tamil

Burn it on fire for some time. Not necessarily burn but like for a lil expose it to fire. Color will change and it will be more flexible and strong

In Tamil Nadu, such banana leaf bowls are used to be made by attaching bits of the leaf & to be used for procuring things used for the rituals by the Hindu brahmin priests for so many years.
