Wow, that is the coolest way to recycle plastic bags I've ever heard of. Bless you lovely ladies.
I live in New Mexico. I currently make 15 gallons of homemade soup for the homeless every Saturday for a Christian motorcycle Ministry called the Hellfighters for the last 4 years. I would love to learn to make these for my brothers and sisters that are enjoying the sites of Albuquerque a little different then we are. I’m sure they would love to enjoy their sandwiches and hot soup on something like that instead of the cold ground. We have t been Blessed with our regular weather this year,it has been crazy colds and even though we need the water out here in the desert 🌵 south west it’s time for it to go away. Thank you for any help you can send my way and God Bless all you young lady’s.
My father's family were ranchers and used and recycled everything. They grew up doing the depression so nothing was wasted. Wgen bread began coming in plastic wrappers my aunt used to make "throw rugs" out of the bread bags like this. We still use them 60-70 years later ❤️
Our church group has been making and donating these mats to homeless people for the last 2 years. The mats have been very well received and sought after. Every mat we make keeps 500-700 recycled plastic bags out of the landfills or out of the waterways and oceans where they are often fatal to marine life. These are soft and comfortable keeping a person off the cold, hard ground and better than sleeping on a piece of cardboard that can get wet and dirty. I have met with other churches, schools, Scout Troops, and other groups to spread the word and get them involved in this very worthwhile project. I've also sent information to organizations out of state so other groups can start their own programs. This is a nationwide and worldwide program that has been going on for 8-10 years or more. It benefits both the homeless and the environment.
Beats the bags ending up in our landfills and oceans, or worse wrapped around an animals neck. Great video and beautiful bags (no pun intended). Where can we find one of the yarn winders you have? Thanks.
There’s so many great things about this video. There’s the lovely ladies . It’s a great way for them to socialise and exercise their hands. Then there’s the fact that this is a great way for there to be less plastic ending up in landfill or in our oceans, killing fish, turtles and so on, and then there’s the mats for homeless people or those in need. I think it’s a wonderful idea and it warms my heart that there IS still good in this world. 💚💚💚💚💚
Wow what a wonderful way to use up plastic bags and to help the homeless. I think you are fabulous and the finished products look great too. May the good Lord love and bless you ladies and keep up the good work 👍❤️👍

I wouldn't have thought they'd keep temperature out & would provide cusion. If I knew how to do this, I'd put it under the fleeces I use for my guinea pigs.
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 What a great idea girls 👍👍👍👍👍 plus you keep the oceans clean 👏👏👏👏👏👏 And you help people, who are in need 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 You are angels 🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♂️💕💕💕💕💕💕💕THANK YOU 🥰😘
My Grandma used to make rugs out of scrap fabric that looked just like this. I love this idea. May God bless all of you abundantly.
Approximately, how many bags do you need for one sleeping mat? And approximately how long does it take to make one mat?
Just marvelous to take all these bags out of the waste cycle and would be fun to socialize with all these nice ladies while doing it together! Would be a cool project to bring to nursing homes for patients to try. And there's so much supply of bags!

Could also use the ends you cut off for stuffing for a little pillow that would not soak up water...
This is such a great way to use plastic bags to create such a beautiful mat. God bless you ladies and keep up the good work
I love you selfless ladies. Thank you!💖👍🏽
What a great use of a troubling product, which have been causing lots of problems for the environment. Fortunately, they are being used less and less. Meantime, thank you for doing your part to help the homeless find some comfort. My store uses the tan ones. I'm trying to bring my own bags, so that there are less plastic bags being used, but when I forget, I recycle them back to the store.
No! Don't cut the strips like that! Cut the top off and cut round and round from the top in a spiral. Then you don't have loads of joins. I've knitted and crocheted with bags. My grandma made hats from them.

Thank you Nanaimo seniors! You're awesome 😊. I'm from Kamloops. My niece and grand-niece live in Nanaimo. I have a love for those close to" the streets". I've seen these beautiful mats. I'm starting to make plan belts... So many people especially guys/ boys have pants that are too big.
Great idea.. I have tried it at my villager and it made more benefit for them
Can we buy these as possibly yoga mats? The money could also go to the homeless...❤️🧚🏻♀️

I'm making baskets from plastic carrier bags but your idea is fab. I plan to find the nearest Shelter and donate some of the mats and some knitted hats too. X

Here in Connecticut they are now charging 10 cents a bag for plastic bags at ALL retail stores and grocery stores. So that's one EXPENSIVE bed!!!
that is awesome!
Wonderful! A homeless camp just popped up in the neighboring county, and I want to do something to help them out (I'm very poor myself, so sadly I can't donate much in the way of money)
I love the way you cut these instead of other ways I've seen. I love your video too.
Our group that donates crocheted items tried to do this it was just killing our hands and wrists and we used large crochet hooks.
I live in Homerville Georgia between Valdosta and Waycross Georgia...are there any classes there
WOW THANK YOU!!!
How awesome 👏
I love you guys!
This is my 1st time even trying to do this kind of project, how do I tie up the ends of my plastic bags rug
Good job 👍👍👍
Pearl Bubbles here's another one for the blankets/mats

I'm in the UK could you give me any idea where I could source a large amount of plastic bags?

How ironic... :) Everyone in the USA has about a gazillion plastic grocery bags. This great idea surely came about because these ladies were wondering what to do with the bazillion plastic t-bags accumulating in their homes....sure wish it would be cost effective to ship them to you! Do an online search for "T-Plastic Bags" I pray you will find a local supply.
Hat off to you all!
Most of the bags, nearly all really in Uk, are biodegradable so my mat would crumble away after a year or so! I might try this with strips of tarpaulins
GREAT IDEA! One question: won't they tear easily, like if it gets caught on something?
Nice
I imagine you could probably weave with the plarn too.
I have found that plastic bags in the UK start to break down after a few years, what do you have in place for when this happens?
I wonder how many bags it takes to make one.
This is brilliant!
I want to learn to make
What state are you in? I've made a few of these in the past. And your right there warm and keep you dry.
Its a grt job
Great
Suuuuuuuperb
we make the strap as a separate infinite loop and wrap over the roll is much easier for both the maker and user of the mat.
Omg that is BRILLIANT!
Greeeeaaaat! :)
How many bags are needed to make a mat?
Art is Everything, Everything is Art! Duane Henry Hoefer Lyon! Purple Bear Productions! Jordan Kentucky USA, MANITOBA CANADA!
now that the plastic bags are no longer being available where do you get your bags???
I wanna try this 👆
