Pictorialism, a movement best known for the work of Robert Demachy, Alfred Stieglitz, George Seeley, Julia Margaret Cameron, Frank Sutcliffe, Gertrude Käsebier, Peter Henry Emerson, and Ken Rosenthal focused their gaze but not their cameras at the natural landscapes of their time.
While most photographers were capturing the realism the tool so naturally recorded, the Pictorialists where throwing their lenses out of focus with the aim of bring a more painterly quality to the medium of photography.
This video demonstrates one way to achieve a pictorialist style with one of your own images. Using Photoshop, you will quickly learn how to apply adjustment layers and tonal controls to alter the feel of your image.

What you taught could be achieved by using any camera with a meniscus lens in combination with a green or blue filter. A popular example of a camera that has the type of lens I mentioned is the Holga. The effect traditionally was achieved by using what is called a softfocus lens on a large format camera and what we now view as a slow speed film. Many of the Pictorialists also used the Bromoil process to get the more drawn look that many associate with the movement.

I’m impressed, I have to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a videos that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, youve hit the nail on the head. Your idea is excellent; the issue is something that not enough persons are speaking intelligently about. I am very joyful that I stumbled throughout this in my search for something relating to this.

I don't mean to offend but if I do so then so be it. You cannot put a ribbon on a piece of poop. Pictorialism must come out of the camera first before any post-processing can be done. A better photo would have driven your powerful message deeper. Good attempt though. I look forward to more progress from you in the future.

This is an old kinderhook video, however, the picture is not great at all. It is extremely flat and there is no depth as if you put no effort into it. If you turned this in as one of your portfolio pictures in photography class, you would probably get a 20, and that's if the teacher is in a good mood.

There is something profoundly sad about this. Real art is not created by an appliance.
