  • @JewelSchool

    @JewelSchool

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Carol, that's a great question. When we don't have a large enough gauge wire on-hand, we often will double up the wire by coiling it 2x around a bracelet mandrel or rolling pin, attaching the two ends (by twisting or crimping, and then wrapping all around the bracelet with thinner wire. It's great to do this in an organic fashion, adding beads along the way to make what Susan calls a "crazy bangle"! We will add this to our list for future demos!

    If you're just starting out, you can just get whatever brand is available and affordable (ie $5-$15). The pliers and cutters carried by Walmart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby are always perfectly fine. I also recommend PandaHall, which is a low-cost Chinese brand that you can easily buy through Ali Express. If you're looking for top quality, the best is probably Lindstrom, but it's like $40-60 a pair. Wubbers is also very good quality, but generally cost $30 and up. Hope that helps!

    OK I am new so forgive me if I didn't see an obvious answer or video listed to my question, but how can I learn more about this "spring back" of wire. I saw you overlapped when wrapping your wire around your mandrel, but I couldn't really see how much of an overlap you used. I discovered that this can actually make a HUGE difference on how certain wire lays and can seriously yuck up a project quick. Is there a. ..idk, a spring back overlap "suggestion" chart like best overlap amount in CM or MM to Guage size ....does this even exist? I have a passion for wire weaving but overall still new to wire and wire jewelry making. Which means i have not yet aquired any fancy extra tools, such as a mandrel or one with measurement lines on them yet. So, any alternative hack suggestions would just be divine.

  • @JewelSchool

    @JewelSchool

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is a 14ga half hard wire. It's a thicker wire. Dead soft is really only going to be in the higher gauges like 22, 24, 26 and 28. They are thinner wires and are used more for wire wrapping. Check out this video about the differences in wire hardness: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pZ-Hqa5qpsW0eJs.html Hope this helps!

    I've watched three different tutorials that you've done and the one thing that I have noticed is that it's difficult to see what you're doing from where you have your camera. Just a suggestion but maybe to possibly put the camera over your hand so that we can see down into the work and your hands are not in the way. I noticed this expecially when you were doing the Princess Leia ring and the Harry Potter earrings. Just a suggestion cuz I know that I missed some parts with some of your other videos not this one but I would have liked to have seen a closer shot of what you were doing.

    Use the same gauge crimp tube as the wire you use for the bracelet your making. In this case it's 14ga. Hope this helps!

    What type of metal wire do you recommend to make bangle bracelets that pose as the least skin allergy risk to people?

    .925 sterling silver or karat gold is your best bet. These will be more expensive wires. Hope this helps!
