I think a cup like that would also look nice with the bottom white and the Nerikomi pattern facing up in the bottom of the inside of the cup So when you look down into the cup with the white porcelain interior you can see at the bottom of the nice design.

Very Interesting video, thanks. For me a big attraction of Nerikomi is seeing that the pattern runs through the piece from outside to inside, so maybe having your clay thinner rather than lining it with plain clay might be worth a try.

I'm sure you have to much more to share. P.S. Do you have an air purifier in your downstairs studio? Concerned with your ventilation, clay dust, and future complications with silicosis

I actually do have quite a few things. I’ve been increasingly conscious as I work with my daughters in there sometimes. Lots of wet mopping and timing of processes cuts dust down a lot. Now I have two systems plus my big fan.

These videos are excellent! I have watched most of your colored Clay videos and I was wondering if you do colored slip as well with the scraps. I can't wait to see the cup out of the kiln!

Thanks Crystal. That makes me happy to hear you’re enjoying my videos. I’ve been saving wet scraps for a scrap block and dry ones for that exact reason. I’ve never used dry colored scraps for slips so it will be a fun experiment for me. I want to make a few videos about making colored slips too. The cups are glazed and going in the kiln tomorrow!!! Stay tuned!

Nice! I have been playing with rehydrating my colored porcelain trimming scraps and so far it has been successful, but I haven't see anything out of the kiln yet 😋

Do you lightly wedge them once you've hydrated them or do just ball them up and throw/roll them out?

Thank you so much for your videos ... they are very instructive. I’ve just started working with colored clay. It has opened up a whole new options. What I don’t have is right wire to cut without smearing. What do you use? Don’t see anything suitable at my local ceramic store.

I use fishing line. The best I’ve heard is guitar string. The finest cut. But I spend time cleaning up after.

How do you make a plaster press mould? I really want to do this but I don’t know how to make it also how do you make them for plates and bowls as well please make a video about this Jim thanks

Jim, I love your videos..I've been trying nerikomi it's not si easy as it looks like..sometimes it's tricky..😉 I have problems with joining pieces together. Perhaps not siutable clay. Nevertheless it's fascinating. BTW what kind of clay do you use and what temperature do you burn it? Thanks. Dorothy

Wetter clay helps. I use a porcelain. The whitest clay gives you the best most vivid colors. Some people use a white stoneware but I’m sort of a purist on that note. I fire to cone 6.

I do. Usually in my kiln unloadings. You can see this cup made in this video I my 500 sub giveaway/ kiln unloading # 2. If I can make work ahead of time I’ll show finished pieces in the same video.

I buy all of my supplies from US Pigment Corporation South Elgin, IL. Local for me. Any online ceramic supply store should have it. Clayking, Big ceramics shop, laguna/miller clay.

Couldn’t believe you used a blowtorch to dry the clay. A hair dryer is easier and gentle. Or a heat gun.

Right? Yeah it works well if you know how to use it. Like those potters that use HUGE torches to dry their big pots on the wheel. I think all of those methods work well.

Kind of. The whiter the clay the more pure and vivid the colors. I've used a gray stoneware before and had decent results. If the clay fire white-ish you can use mason stains. It may take more though and they're not cheap.

You might have less trouble with your mold, if the parting line was along an intersection, and not in the middle of a facet.

It probably depends on how many pieces you want to make...is press molding like slip casting, where you only get about thirty five really perfect pulls, before the mold is worn out?

Maybe hold off posting the video until you've fired the pottery and can show the finished product?
