How to make NERIKOMI pottery ~ the full ceramic process from start to finish (no wheel)

How to make pottery using the Japanese style, Nerikomi.
A full tutorial, each step is videoed and explained from the preparation of the clay to the final result. (except for the firing section, I unfortunately do not have access to where my pieces are fired)
This is such a satisfying method and you never know exactly how it is going to turn out until it's been fired.
I also made a marbled mug - which is technically not Nerikomi but is rather Neriage.
I use white stoneware clay.

Loved the video! I wonder why the newspaper was used for compressing, is it for stop the clay from blending together?

Thank you!! Yes that’s right - the newspaper is to compress it without smudging the surface

Do I have any questions about whether it was air dried or did you use an oven?

They were fired (used an oven / kiln). You can’t use air dry clay for mugs because it is not food safe ☺️

Thank you. Can't wait to try! Could I hand build the marble one and get the same effect? @klayceramics

Yes! Just marble your clay by wedging the different colours together and then you can either use the slab method (the same as the handbuilt mug in this video) or the pinch pot method (like this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJaHqdB_Y9G-nqg.htmlsi=m5fhpFcJDv6Iyyqz ). I haven’t tried hand building with marble clay yet so not sure which way works best. I hope it goes well! I would love to see the result!✨🤍

En effet le le nerikomi est différent il y a le même dessin intérieur que à l’extérieur le travail est plus difficile et plus pointilleux. Mais votre travail est très beau félicitations
