All great advice, as usual. One thing I always aim for is to get to the track EARLY, so I can take my time getting everything ready to go. If I start rushing in the pits, then I start rushing things on track also. Sometimes then the whole day just seems like a blur, and I have trouble focusing on my plan.

I always used the idea that you changed direction with your feet and steered through the bars. Using counter steering to pick the bike up from full lean could exceed the grip available from the front tyre. Using your feet and thigh leverage on the outside peg to transfer weight takes some weight off the front to facilitate countersteering

I like to practice slow maneuvers outside the track! They help massively in muscle coordination.

Good advice as always. I agree with focusing on one improvement at a time and writing down comments. Having a good checklist of everything you need to take also removes the stress and hassle in getting to the track.

Great advice. For visualisation, I play video games that have that specific track (if possible), even if it's a car game. They're surprisingly accurate.

You mentioned visualisation. It's very useful and powerful tool not only in sport, but in everyday life. But, not many of us are using it. In track riding, I would say it's priceless. It deserves special video. I've heard top sports man saying "body can't reach goal that mind haven't been before".

Love the videos man! I have a checklist on my phone that I use 24 hours in advance of a track day, every time. Usually watch videos of new tracks prior to the track day to get a mental image of the turns.

good advice. This year I am returning to the track after a big accident last year where I was highsided of my Honda SP1 (2001 model) and broke my shoulder and some ribs. So I will use a lot of Your advices and build up the speed over a couple of days. THANKS.

This nice plan! I, for one. Like to work on my mechanics (braking, body position, throttle and seeing how my group is riding) for the 1-2 sessions. Then at the 3rd. session is more about what am going to work on after lunch... After lunch, game on. 4 sessions left on the day. On each of those sessions I work on one thing per that session and so on! Last session, I treat it as Sunday afternoon ride (relax/fun).

Hello Dan, being single I watch a video of my track a few times a week and watch a fast rider with a fast lap time. Laying in bed before I fall asleep I try to visualize myself on the track riding very fast and smooth around 19 corners. This helps me in getting more familiar with the track and works for me. The last 2 track days I have progressed by 3 seconds more each track day. Issue I have now is finding rear sets due to scrapping and slowing up my times. The Triumph Street Triple RS is a good all around bike but definitely not a track bike. I know I will in time get faster and smoother as well as enjoying my days at the track. Looking for a Suzuki GSX-R750 to ride on the track. My son has my 1st. GSXR and I ride it on the last session of a track day. Able to go 4 seconds faster on his bike compared to my RS. The bike flows through the corners and feels so right. Thank You for all the valuable information and taking your time to make these priceless video's!!!

Hey Joseph, I also own a Street Triple RS and find it a pretty good bike for track, the suspension and brakes are high quality, of course not sport position but it’s a naked, the gsxr750 will be perfect though. My problem is when I get into a corner and lean fast I lose grip and slide mainly from the rear wheel, I had a few calls and I think is because I lean too fast and should be smoother when leaning. Did you have that problem?

@@haveanartday Hello Fernando, the RS was a stepping stone up the ladder. Yes, a upright bike and I ride the bike different than the GSX-R750. Had a issue of scrapping the pegs and aftermarket pegs were very expensive. Everybody has their own riding positions, try leaning off the bike and keep the bike more upright. I ran Q'3's front and rear, watch the pressure depending on track temps. Never slid, was in upper intermediate group. The bike has torque compared to a smooth 750. The 750 is very easy to ride and is 7lbs. lighter which probably not noticeable. I recently purchased a 2020 GSX-R1000R and saved $4500.00. Love the bike for the canyons and had a chance to do 1 track day. Glad I picked up the 1,000 instead of the 750. Quick shifter up and down and turns in easier that the 750, go figure being 30lbs. heavier but new technology compared to the old 750. As a friend use to always say, seat time, seat time, like anything you will progress eventually. Some trackers are quick learners and some aren't. If your not in there to be the fastest just enjoy track days, much cheaper. Good luck Fernando and Happy Holidays!!!

I race motocross and in motocross and in Supercross when you turn into a slick turn you sit on the the top of the seat to create more traction as to not slide out and that’s what every motocross trainer teaches but on road bikes you hang down off the seat I just don’t understand what the difference is why are they different? To me the road is a flat and potentially slick riding surface so which one creates more traction in a turn? To me laying low with the bike will help push the bike and make it wanna slide out as opposed to being on top of the seat, which to me would help make your weight push down on the tires creating traction as opposed to making them wanna slide outwards

Hey man, i don't know if you're reading you comments but i have a question for you about your bike and its ABS I have a street triple r from 2014 aswell and on track i've noticed that on hard breaking a lot of time the ABS kicks in. Note that its when i'm applying maximum pressure, and not when getting on the brakes. Do you have this aswell? am i breaking too late and hard? or is the ABS just so intrussive? my previous bike was a ninja 300 and with that bike on the same track i never had ABS kick in and felt the back wheel come up a bit. so now i'm in a dilemma... should i have abs off to make my breaking uninterrupted? (when it kicks in i go wide into the corner, i prefer feeling the wheel come up and releasing pressure) or should it stay on and save me when i do fuck up and just brake more early?

Here's something to do before your track day: Load your bike up early. You don't want to deal with dropping it at 10pm before you're supposed to leave at 4am, breaking your double bubble and helmet causing you to shell out 400 quid on a new one the next day from a trackside vendor.

I feel like going to the track doesnt make me any better. if I was any good as an instructor I'd be a better rider lol. I love the track and have a blast every time but I cant even remember braking zones and cant be consistent at all. I wish I could afford instruction but just swinging $500+ for a track day once or twice a year is hard enough.

That's a shame! Going to the track enabled me to pass my current limits while learning more out of my bike and confidence. I do have a lot of mountain road out here to 'practice' on, though.
