I agree that pet stores are far better off buying locally because GENERALLY us smaller breeders have far far healthier fish than huge wholesalers. I recently did a video about breeding electric blue Acaras. When I spoke to the LFS about 3 or 4 weeks after they got the fry, they said not 1 had died. That sure made me proud and happy to hear.

@@MichaelsFishRoom yeah, I was told it was against Walmart policy. My local PetSmart will not trade you or buy fish, but after getting to know them for a long time, my local Petco will give me store credit. They just keep it off the books. when I go to buy something and use my credit I have to talk to the same person every time so he can keep track of it. Sadly we only have one true privately owned a local fish store in the vicinity.

However, push come to shove, I'll take a tank full of mutt guppies. If I could only keep one tank of fish, mutt guppies it would be. I have a question. I had a horrible dye off of my guppies. I loved my guppies and they died one after the other after the other. Over a 2 month period they would take 2 days to slowly die. No 2 guppies were dying at the same time. It was excruciating. I finally started medicating them, em erythromyin, general cure, ich ex. I watch your videos and Cory's videos. Also Levamisole. You name it, my tank had it, camallanus worms, fin rot, calamnaris, ich, bloat, wasting disease, baddeer problems, pineconing, etc. so on and so forth. After the meds my tank is super duper healthy but my guppies are kind of bland. They have unbelievable guppies at petco, but I know they're super sick and have tons of parasites. Is it a good idea to go and buy a bunch of pretty guppies from petco, medicate the hell out of them, and the ones that live, add them to my colony? If not, what do you recommend. Thank you in advance. You're one of my favorites. :) I'm a huge guppy lover.

@@Pedro116092 As far as I know Gambusia don't hybridize with guppies and the females never have color. So sounds like they are likely female guppies. Are you sure it's the female guppies doing the damage? Could be the other fish. Many fish will nip at and chase fancy guppy males.

“Mutt vigor” is quite a myth. Especially with dogs. Combining breeds or types who have their own health and behavioral problems creates an animal now prone to the combination of those problems. You have a German Shepherd prone to hip dysplasia and a golden prone to some form of cancer, you now have a dog prone to both of those. Sure adding to a gene pool can give certain animals more vigor but only if the ones free of issues are bred. Otherwise you still have those issues and more. Not trying to cause an argument or anything just saying. 😁

ShelbyRae Lane Also they’re generally the opposite of balanced mentally. Taking two completely different breeds who have different behaviors and genetics creates a genetic and mental mess. Sure not all are that way. But mutts are generally the opposite of healthier and mentally stable.

@@arianaevans4318 I definitely agree, as a former professional dog trainer and former veterinary technician. Hybrid vigor of dog mutts is a total myth and fallacy. And depending on the breeds involved I've seen some really messed up behavior too. Healthy parents usually produce healthy offspring. Unhealthy parents often produce unhealthy offspring, whether purebred or mutt.

@@ReneesZooTube Exactly! I train dogs and am studying for veterinary sciences and zoology. I also breed and show rabbits and the same rules apply. That's why I always recommend people buy a dog from a reputable breeder who health tests and has titles in sports instead of adopting a shelter dog. Buying a dog from a good breeder can almost 100% guarantee a healthy and level-headed animal. Most shelter mutts are genetic messes.

Bad info, dude, Pure bred dog does not mean well bred. A well bred German Shepherd has GENERATIONS of being bred to NOT have hip dysplasia. Responsible breeders have taken the time to have their dogs hips Xrayed and scored and they do not breed dogs with poor or failing scores. This greatly decreases the chances of one of their puppies developing hip dysplasia. Meanwhile, someone can have a labradoodle and that puppy can be crippled with hip dysplasia by a year because the breeder did NOT OFA the parents and because the parents are from generations of dogs that themselves were not hip checked. In fact, there are many genetic diseases that are more common in the mongrel dog, because of the lack of testing for disease and breeding away from those that are affected or carriers of those diseases by ignorant, uninformed people who believe that just because a dog is a mutt, it is automatically healthy. I will say it again, pure bred dog NOT mean well bred. And well bred does NOT mean pure bred. At the very least, anyone breeding any dogs of any kind (pure or mixed), needs to have a genetic disease screening to insure that they are not breeding two dogs together that carry the same genetic disease.
