Boom Bap is a little trickier than you make people believe. Regarding the drums the kick and also the main hi-hats (including the open hi-hat) need to cut each other off. Of course the velocity shoud vary as well. The hats should be panned a bit. The swing is crucial for that type of music. You might want to focus a bit more on that. Most boom bap producers therefore use the piano role instead of the pattern sequencer. A great trick is taking a live recorded loop or a some other loop with a great swing, cut it in slicex, create a midi pattern of those chops and exchange the sounds while using the original swing.

Izotope vinyl or sketch cassette is dope too. Izotope vinyl is free tho but not as powerful. RC-20 was on sale recently for like half the price but I’m not sure if it’s still going on
