🌿How to Make Miniature Ivy Vines🌿

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Miniature Ivy Leaves and Vines Tutorial
The most important part of this process: the creation of the specialty paper used to create the Miniature Ivy Leaves - and it is SUPER simple!
I call it my DIY Vellum Technique - and it has tons of uses! The translucence that results is perfect for simulating foliage for miniature work.🍁
Any electronic cutting machine will be capable of cutting the leaves, as long as it is capable of handling intricate cuts at TINY sizes.
The Secret Garden Diorama will be smothered with ivy, this is just the first stage of the greenery to be created...😉
Grab your free SVG Files HERE:
thicketworks.com/how-to-make-...
Each sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper will yield over 1,000 ivy leaves in various sizes. 😱

I love the ivy leaves. For smaller scale ivy plants one can pull up grass, wash out and dry the roots. They inverting the roots and attaching them to the wall with dots of adhesive you get a very natural-looking vine system upon which to attach these great leaves. This works great for HO scale...1/12 can also work if you pull up some weeds with larger roots. Thank you so much for all the wonderful projects. You are a generous soul and much appreciated.

Heather they are beautiful! When I first got my maker, I realized how valuable it was as a hole punch. No more buying all those single punches in a variety of sizes (if you can even find different sizes). I have already used mine for creating miniature flowers. It's so cool how you did the leaves. That transparency with no white edges is so perfect. You are right about it all being in the details. I think I may try this method with the flowers too, to see if it improves the realism. Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial!!! I also tried the DIY vellum using baby oil. But once it dried, it was still able to transfer that oil onto other papers. (I wanted to use it in a journal). I could not come up with a solution, so I scrapped the idea. So again, thank you for this. I should have known you, of all crafters, would figure this out. :) Now I wonder if I could use a coat of clear gesso instead, so I can write on it? Sounds like time for an experiment! The colors you used made beautiful papers and, even more so, believable leaves. Thanks also for the SVG file. Can hardly wait to see the finished project!

Hi, @BooksByBethany! Oh, no! I am so sorry that you had oil transfer to the other papers, my friend. Because I glued my DIY Vellum onto adjacent pages, I never knew this was happening until other viewers mentioned it. The glue must have blocked the oil transfer, so that it never caught my attention with my own work. I've since updated the text on the DIY Vellum video, so that we can minimize the problems for future experimenters. I LOVE your idea of using Clear Gesso as a sealer: this is genius, girl. xoxo

Very nice results Heather. Im needing some ivy for my current project but it’s 1/58 scale. Much much smaller. I’m not sure your cutting machine would go that small? Regardless the look and texture you’ve gotten for that paper turned out really well! There are some railroad products I might end up having to pick up for what I need.🤔

Hi Neil...ya know, I think that folks who work at ANY scale less than 1:12 must have Elven Blood running through their veins...(and that is the HIGHEST of compliments!😉) And I agree, 1/58 is far too small to make use of the Maker for foliage - but, there are LOTS of other uses that might come in handy: you can cut heavy chipboard, so designing and cutting structural panels for buildings, bridges and things could be possible. So looking forward to your next video, my super-talented friend! xoxo

Heather, Heather, Heather...AWESOME!!! Don't suppose you would consider selling me a couple of hundred of those tiny, tiny* little leaves? You could throw in a few of those *vines* while you are at it. I am thinking as much as I love what you did, I would be an *old lady* by the time I tried to do these leaves!! Oh, I forgot I am already an old lady!!(sigh) LOL

Ha! Now, Lois...we BOTH know that 'age' is no barrier to getting stuff done, girl - you proved that to me, long ago. Never succumb! 🌹

You can add a couple of sprayed coats of a good quality clear spray sealer to tracing paper for a similar effect, but I have not tested this method with the Cricut Maker. Good luck! xoxo
