Re:Welding at ~12:00 The ground should be on the slide plate to avoid bearing current which could damage the linear bearings

Yeah you should have built a stable/sturdy table to work from first. Punching the holes on top of your linear rails was pretty sketchy.

This whole thing was sketchy. I hate to imagine if people actually believed a metal lathe could be made like this with such poor materials, welded together so poorly and misaligned so badly. Someone gonna get hurt like this

I doubt there is from the linear bearings, but I'm sure there's an extreme amount of vibration from using such thin gauge angle iron and not being an experienced welder to perform the quality of welds needed for a metal lathe

This is a joke right ? Don't get me wrong it's super cool but a metal lathe is a very precise and accurate machine. Calling this a proper metal lathe would be like me calling my microwave a spaceship. Like I said super cool though you should try and put a little more Care into your projects in the sense of if you're going to make it why don't you make it as good as you can maybe by making sure you're making accurate cuts cleaning them cuts up stuff like that super cool video man

One thing u did wrong.. U used nut bolt to stop sliding.. But u directly tightens bolt on linear shaft whit will scratch it in long use n then sliding motion will be hindered.. But rest of ur work is superb..

Therevwould be so many awesome videos on KZread if you would just explain the thought process behind what you're doing. I'm sitting and watching, but learning nothing. Whereas on a video with explanation, I sit and watch, and learn why he's putting this bolt here or that gear there.. These don't really constitute "how to" videos in my opinion.. More like a "watch what I can do" video.

Yes, I can't tell if he just doesn't know better, or just wanted to get views for his video but this is not a good lathe for metal

ужас! даже если предположить что все выставлено параллельно соосно и перпендикулярно, сварные конструкции через пол года-год выведут из параллельности соосности и перпендикулярности ибо их нужно отжигать если коротко то нарушены все технологии изготовления точных станков

ну мальчик старался))) во вот всякими ненужными индикаторами до микрометров вымеряете, а оказывается согнутый электрод круче любого ренишав)))))

You made so many mistakes that the video shoul be named "How NOT to...". You either have little technical understanding or have done too little research

Why are you working on the floor? If I were you, I will build a table first. These homemade lathe that uses those linear rails and bearings simplify the build but they will not be as rigid and precise compare to those build to the same design as the real lathes.

That and the frame that supports them is flimsy. Thin flimsy metal welded together poorly running at high speeds and lot's of power is dangerous

Safety glasses I agree with you. Wearing gloves while using a lathe is an awful idea though, you need some dexterity during operation and it gives the machine something to grab while operating. Put the gloves (cut resistant) on while cleaning chips out of the machine. The biggest safety concern in the video is the position he’s operating from. Crouched on the floor, hovering over the machine, he isn’t in a position to retreat if something crashes.

I agree a proper lathe shouldn't use these rails, but on this lathe the rails might be the best part of it ..haha
