How to make marinara sauce in a hurry!
"Cooked all day" is a term that often gets associated with marinara sauce. But what if I told you the best, homemade marinara sauce only takes 15 minutes to make?
In this video, I'll walk you through the process I use when I want to get pasta with from-scratch marinara sauce on the table in a hurry.
Ingredients:
1-2 Tbsp olive oil
6-8 cloves garlic, crushed, minced, or sliced
1 lg can tomatoes, squeezed by hand
1 tsp salt (plus more to taste)
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes *optional
Hey! Thanks for watching!
I'm Paula. I'm a former professional cook and overall eating enthusiast.
I started this channel because I love making dinner and I love eating dinner.. but mostly it's because all I've ever wanted in life is to have my own cooking show. When I didn't get a callback after submitting my tape to Food Network in 2003, I put that dream to rest for a while. Until I clued in, I can do it myself on KZread!
I love sharing the tips I've learned from professional kitchens and tidbits from my holistic nutrition education. But mostly I just want to show you how to make dinner. (See what I did there?) 😄
My cooking style is simple but flavourful. I cook with a lot of veggies but I'm not vegetarian. For me, a typical dinner is plant-forward, budget-friendly, non-fussy, and really delicious. As a step-mom, I make a lot of family-friendly comfort food, as well as a lot of simple, realistic dinners for one (or two).

Seeing your video pop up in my feed brought out the biggest smile of the day for me haha. Love this recipe, this is legit a perfect dinner. I also agree about the citric acid in canned tomatoes, not a fan. From what I learned it's often added to all forms of chopped tomatoes so they keep their shape better as well. That's why I almost always just buy whole canned tomatoes.

Aw so glad I’m still popping up for you! Ahh I wasn’t sure why they added that extra stuff. I watched an in-depth video by Ethan Chlebowski (sp?) once and totally agreed with most of what he discovered!

I always add some finely chopped onion and (shhhh) dried oregano. My chilli flakes amount is scarily getting more and more. I NEED the chilli sweats 😁 ps Your totally right about letting it sit - overnight is the best I've found but sometimes you just gotta eat!

Oregano I can handle! But I tend to avoid it for pasta because I associate it so much with pizza! 🍕🍕

Paula you make even the simplest of dishes inspiring. And so now I'm having pasta and marinara for dinner tonight. Oh, and batch freeze minced garlic? Genius! I'll be buying garlic heads this week and will do just that. I always dread garlic prep a little. -- the cutting board mess, the tediously small knife work, the smell left over on my hands. What kind of salt do you use? On a beautiful looking batch of Lebanese pickled turnips I learned the hard way about how much a difference there is between kosher salt and say, table salt. D'oh.

I’m so glad to hear that this inspired you! Salt-wise, I’m all over the place. Usually I look for a sea salt that’s fairly inexpensive. Yes! Kosher is way less salty!!

I'm a HUGE fan of using canned, whole tomatoes whenever I make a thicker sauce. When in the mood for spaghetti, I've started to use Bucatini because of the hole in it. Those noodles retain sauce like nobody's business. I've got all of the ingredients already (except I'll be using ziti) so my dinner for the tomorrow and the day after is sorted! Thanks for the video! Cheers!

Thanks for the info. I make marinara sauces and meat sauces often. I usually start with plain, canned store brand tomato sauce, but I will try squeezing whole canned tomatoes and I will be on the lookout for citric acid and calcium chloride… I had two open bottles of dried basil, well past their best by date, and I disposed of them. I need to improve my fresh basil game.

I love you, too! But dried basil is lovely and will forever be in my sauce! LOL. If I had known back then that the Italian nonnas use their own thin tomato sauce and often thicken it with tomato paste, that might have been my method of choice. (Thank you Pasta Grannies!) Now I split the difference and go with diced tomatoes rather than whole, but I will for sure be looking for the citric acid in future.
