Controversial take: You CAN watch a movie over two days. Worked out for me while watching some of Tarantino’s recent stuff. Particularly because he sets these films up in chapters, and it gave me time to reflect on what I had seen so far before getting into the second half 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

i know no one cares about this comment, but most of my favorite of all time films are usually long ones. and i realized this because, most of the movies i find to be "ok" are shorter, this is because i don't get to spend so much time invested in a film to really conecct to it in the same way i did with, "the wolf of wallstreet" "gone girl" "goodfellas" "magnolia" you get to see this characters and feel way more part of their world than with ohter films. it's hard for this movies, even if you don't like them, to feel forgetabble, because you just spend so much time with them, that they feel like a part of your day, more than a short movie you easily watched for an hour or so.

Your videos are so unique and fun to watch, thanks for this! I’ll be sure to check out the recs that you gave that I haven’t seen! I have really bad ADD, sometimes I can’t even sit through an hour and a half. I get distracted by the smallest things and it’s so aggravating sometimes! I definitely feel as though the theater helps so much with being distracted, no pausing and checking for the runtime like I normally would in every other setting lmao. I feel like watching it on the tv helps too. Three hour movies intimidate me, and I have to be in a certain space to watch them, but normally they’re always worth it.

Solid video. I've also found breaking it up a little can help. Taking an hour off at that intermission in Lawrence of Arabia is key. Recently I watched Magnolia in 3 one-hour chunks and it was great. I was about to comment "Boyhood isn't long" until I looked, in shock, to see it's 2:45 run time. I wouldn't have said it was over 2 hours when I watched it in the theater when it came out. And I'll definitely have to check out Yiyi.

The last time I saw an intermission was when I went to a double showing of both Incredibles movies to celebrate the sequel's release. Before that it was a re-release of Toy Story 1 & 2 together in the theaters around the time of Toy Story 3 being released. Another tip is to pause in the middle of the movie and continue another day. Some films are paced in a way where you can naturally take a break. Of course if it's The Lord of the Rings Extended then the disks do it for you as each film is split into 2 with appropriate timing.

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve been meaning to watch Barry Lyndon, and to hear someone say that the Seven Samurai is the best action film ever? Compared to the Raid films? Now I’m interested. And I would also like to recommend a film for you, Karsten. Red Dog (2011). A extremely emotionally and tearjerking movie that I sincerely hope you enjoy if you get the chance to watch it.

I just want to take a second to say how much I love Fritz Lange’s Metropolis and I think everyone should watch it, it still amazes me how rewatchable it is despite it being almost a century old. It has some of the most beautiful and striking production design I’ve ever seen and the world it creates is still one of the most unique, if you are going to try and get into a silent film I highly recommend this one, it is incredible.

Watching 3 hours movie can be hard to see a long movie, but it is important to watch an incredible film that you want to see and how interesting will be. You know sometimes I rather watch it at my home and I have to take a break for only 5 to 10 minutes and come back and watch half part of the movie. If only they have intermissions in each of these movies.

Really well done video. I think that this was a topic in film that definitely needed to be brought up. Runtime ultimately shouldn’t be an automatic negative for a film like some (and I really mean only like a certain few) critics have been putting Endgame down for. It depends what they do in that runtime and how they handle it that will matter and films have shown that time and time again. Viewers just need to set up their viewing experience better independently. The theaters already do this for us, but since people are at home with their electronic devices nowadays, doing a lot of the tips you explained in your video can definitely help the viewer adapt to their respective environments when watching films.

I agree on watching movies in the morning. Sometimes when it's 9 or 10 pm and i'm thinking "when i finish the movie it's midnight and i won't have time to do anything else", but watching it at 10 am when there's no distracting factor, no big sense of time, you can finish the movie till 13 pm and have a long day ahead of you, it's just a great time to watch a movie especially a long one

Long movies are and have always my thing, especially when I want to get immersed in the story and characters (which is the most important thing for me). What always bothers me is when I need time to absorb what's happening in the film, it rushes through even the most crucial story beats/character moments, often treating them as if they're unimportant. A LOT of 2 hour+ blockbusters do this (Sam Mendes' Bond films and Blade Runner 2049 being one of the few exceptions) and it pisses me off. It's not that I don't want a movie to be long, it's more I want the film to be immersive for me, and I get REALLY ANGRY when films, short or long, don't pay attention to aspects such as character development, storytelling, emotion and editing. There are films under two hours that do so (The World's End, Punch Drunk Love, Silence of the Lambs, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are great examples), but having such a long runtime definitely helps for me. With that rant over, here are some of my favorite long films: - Magnolia (3 hrs 8 mins) - The Green Mile (3 hrs 9 mins) - The Shawshank Redemption (2 hrs 22 mins) - Interstellar (2 hrs 49 mins) - Skyfall (2 hrs 22 mins) - The Shining (2 hrs 24 mins) - The Wolf of Wall Street (2 hrs 59 mins) - Blade Runner 2049 (2 hrs 44 mins) - Prisoners (2 hrs 33 mins) - Zodiac (2 hrs 42 mins) - Gone Girl (2 hrs 29 mins) - The Master (2 hrs 23 mins) - A Silent Voice (2 hrs 10 mins) - Manchester by the Sea (2 hrs 17 mins) - Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2 hrs 32 mins) - The Handmaiden (2 hrs 25 mins) - Titanic (3 hrs 15 mins) - The Dark Knight Trilogy (2 hrs 20 mins/2 hrs 32 mins/2 hrs 44 mins) - Heat (2 hrs 50 mins) - Brazil (2 hrs 23 mins) - Pulp Fiction (2 hrs 32 mins) - the list goes on.

Here's another thing i find interesting about longer movies. Because these movies take their time to absorb you into their world and story, there is a lot of room for great scenes, character development, and performances, that these films have a really good chance at becoming one of your favorite ones, something short movies don't really have in that amount. Maybe it's just me, but it's a rare gem to find 1h30m movie which i would call a masterpiece and it'd crack in my top 10-20 movies of all time, unlike the longer movies, which there's like at least a couple of those all timers for me
