I love the design and the board you've made from cardboard. It's brilliant! I will be making several of these in various colors for 4 different houses and 6 Star Bucks restaurants. They will be perfect for wall decorations. By the way, I make dollhouses so I will be using butchers twine/cotton for my cord. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. It's lovely! I must say, I have been on youtube for days watching "How to" clips and yours is the most informative. THANK YOU!! You talked us through all the steps and I understand so much more on "How to" do this!! I wish I could give you 10 thumbs up!! Your projects are wonderful and your tutorials are excellent, thank you! The pace of your explanations and how you video the steps, the mentioning of the measurements and having them in the subtitles, and also showing both metric units equivalence (I use cm) makes all so easy to follow! Btw, instead of 3mm, if I’m using 4mm, how can I calculate the length of the strands? Is there an equivalence?

Thanks so much for the great comment. Much appreciated. Add about 16cm to the strands and that should do it to cover the extra thickness of the macrame cord.

Crafty Patti, thank you so much. That is a precious tip. I intend to continue following your work and having your projects as an inspiration. I have already made the table mat for candles but because I used 4mm I ran out of cord. As a result the parts between the main petals were missing. But it looks very pretty. The technique you use with the main strand where the others attach is fantastic. I used it in a project where I didn’t have a ring. And I’ve shared your videos to help others. Once again thank you!

amazing tutorial, thank you so much for it!! I wonder, how much cord would I need for a coaster of 60cm (not 19) - do you have any clue how to calculate it? I think I would do it with 5mm, not 3mm cord then. I would be very grateful for any tips here:) cheers from Poland!

It’s a bit of a guess when you are working with a thicker cord than the original design. Thicker cord will take up more length. Your design will be about 3 times larger than mine. I used 52m. So times that by 3 and that gives you 156m. But the 5mm cord will take up more. The other way to calculate is to figure out how long your project will be and multiply that length by 5. So for example. If your length is 60cm x 5 that. gives you 300 cm. (3m) That is just for 1 strand that will be folded in half. Then figure out how many strands you will need. I would buy at least 200m for your project.

Hi, I’m really excited to try and make this. I may be a little bit short for rope. Can I make each strand a little bit shorter and therefore have less fringing around the edges when I finish? Thanks.

You can change up the design any way you like. Just keep watching to see how much length you have left to have enough for the fringe and finish off your design. It doesn’t have to be exactly like mine. Right now we all work with what we have on hand and just make it work. Happy crafting!

For the fringe, a cotton twisted cord is easier to unravel than a braided cord but it’s possible.

Im confused. the 40" piece where the slip knot is. is twice the length of the others which are 20" (40" halved). so should the slip knot be at 20" instead?

I answered you on Facebook but I understand your question better now. I see your confusion. Yes, when the cords are folded in half they end up about 20" long. You are correct. You can start your slip knot at 20". My mistake. I did say at 40". Sorry. But don't worry if you have already started. You will just have one strand a bit longer at the end.
