Your burner assembly needs to be placed inside the body of the engine along with a couple of baffles, one separating the 2nd & 3rd fan and another one behind the 4th to create the front wall of the combustion chamber. The first baffle should reduce the diameter of the air passage and the 2nd blade needs to have the tips trimmed to be just a wee bit larger in circumference than the pass through in 1st baffle. The hole in the 2nd baffle should be a little smaller than the pass through hole in the 1st baffle and the tips of blades 3 & 4 trimmed to be a wee bit larger than the pass through hole in the 2nd baffle. I suggest one more baffle at the end of the tube where the conical nozzle piece attaches. It should be about 75% the diameter of the outlet hole in the nozzle. Your fuel feed lines should be introduced about 1/4 of the length of the combustion chamber back from the 2nd fan blade baffle. Will your engine work like a proper air-breathing reaction motor? Maybe. Right now your design lacks any meaningful back pressure. The narrowing of the pass throughs will create a marginally better amount of compression and speed up the airflow due to the improvised Venturi effect that the first two baffles provide. The third baffle in the rear in concert with a defined combustion chamber will allow a modest amount of back pressure and as the combustion gas exits through the last baffle’s pass through, it’ll expand in the inside of the nozzle and push against the inside of the nozzle and the rear baffle as the gases are exiting through the nozzle; this in turn will create some modest amount of forward thrust according Newton’s 3rd law. As an aside, with the modifications I’ve suggested, the fuel ports into the bottom of the nozzle can be repurposed with a secondary fuel supply and potentially act as a weak afterburner stage. Good luck.

Very Cool! Although like the naysayers said, it is not a true "jet engine", as the combustion is not occuring between a compressor, and turbine, (yours is after the fan), the principal is still somewhat similar for demo purposes to younger people. Great job! You would be a great educator to spark interest for those who might decide to pursue the science of it further in life.

I understand what you're trying to convey here and getting kids into science is something I'm ALL for. But my biggest bitch is our educational system in North America, mostly the United States, (sorry, truth doesn't care about feelings). We, in this educational system, have forgotten to teach our children how to think critically/rationally. And because of this people, don't mature with confidence in their own abilities to find truth in what's presented to them. Instead of maturing and growing up, people just get older and are easily moldable in their perceptions of sometimes what's right in front of them/us and obvious as things can be. But we have no tools to think in a rational/critical manner. THIS is why North Americans, score in the lower ends of first world countries in many, many areas.

Nice job, but I see at least 2 big problems: - all your fans are on the same axle, which implies the air flow is at about a constant speed from the second fan. My works on propfan showed each step must be spinning at a higher speed than the previous one, which is essential with contra-rotating fans to avoid gyroscopic precession, but the idea is still the same whatever flow you're working on. - each subsequent step must be smaller than the previous one to increase air compression and thus speed at the output nozzle. To combine the two, the simplest is to have a single motor shaft with belts and each fan on its axis (all collinear) and proportional gear reduction. It's a tad more complicated than this one (because of the bets and the separate axes), but it makes it much more efficient. Also, how about soldering the pieces together (not even brazing or welding) once superglued to reduce the air leaks?

@@success_studio feel free to email me. What I'm saying is that all the work is done by the first fan. The second fan provides no acceleration -- or something very marginal due to the fact that the first fan is not physacally "perfect", theory and practice may differ. On the second (and all further other fans), the input speed and output speed are pretty much the same if both fans are the same size and speed, even contra-rotating. Now, contra-rotating is the reason for the extreme noise, which is mostly generated between the propellers: Since your fluid is spinning in one direction and you're trying to reverse that spinning direction, so, yeah, your air will go from -speed to +speed, it's just perpendicular to the axis you want:and has absolutely no effect on the propulsion force, or marginally by accumulating pressure at the tips of your fans (not where you want it, unless it's severely funneled). Also, the distance between propellers is very important to avoid unwanted turbulence. If the sound is what you want, then it's fine. If you're looking for any form of thrust, think again. Have a look to Integza's channel, he's trying for ages to make a working jet. Also, if you want to explore that domain, you can have a read of NASA's report about... propfans (id 19870019120). It explores the physics and fluid dynamics of 2 contra-rotating "special" propellers and all the tests made in different configurations. I know, 476 pages... unless you're trying to build one to create something even better, that's a pretty boring read of 476 pages, but totally worth it to figure out what's hidden behind it. Enjoy!

in the jet engine, the air is compressed and there the fuel is added then ignited in the compressed chamber, so the thrust is multiplied by the expanding air. And also the jet engine not necessary need turbine, as long it has continuous compressed air and fuel that exploded it can called a jet (turbinless jet is called ramjet engine) . But this video, fuel is at the end side of blade. Moreover it ignited at the outside. In conclusion, its just a rotor that bursting fire.

I'm just coming on here to point out for many of the people who are arguing below that it isn't a jet engine. This IS a jet, but it isn't an engine. What makes an engine an engine is the fact that on each cycle, more energy is released than is required for the next cycle. The next cycle gets the energy it needs, and the remainder of the energy is exhausted to the environment. Jet engines don't have cycles in the same sense as a piston engine, but they are analyzed the same way. For this to have been an engine, the energy released by burning the fuel would have to be captured in some way (turbines after the burn chamber) and put back into the input side for the next cycle -- to wit, if the prime mover (the electric motor) is removed and the jet doesn't self-sustain, it isn't an engine. As an aside, what this guy did was basically built a model salamander (those heaters that people have in their garages and on construction sites that look like a jet). Mind you, I'm using a practical definition of an engine, not the exact thermodynamic definition, though I've never seen anything to indicate that there's any such thing as a non-self-sustaining heat engine.

it certainly won't break any sound barrier anytime soon, view it as a scaled down simplified but with a similar concept to that of a jet engine, because what jet engine is it's basically a bunch of high speed turbine sucking in air from the front, pressurize the air in the middle, and combust it with spraying fuel as the air were being forced out at the rear at a very high velocity, thus achieving the speed of sound. believe it or not, the concept of a jet engine is actually simpler to understand than that of a regular piston engine which a car uses, because it really is just a bunch of giant fan and some pipe that spew out fuel, the rest is physics.

Got to have a compressor with tolerance so that proper compression takes place without pressure loss through intake, etc.. I define the jet by it's ability to self sustain, only use electric to start it up. I'd start with an old turbo or something.. I'm currently dissecting a Dyson for a small compressor wheel.. it is a start though sir..

By definition a jet engine is self sustaining and this one in the video is not. Therefore not a jet engine. There are simpler jet engines that are easier to make that are called pulse jet engines. I haven’t yet gotten the time to build a pulse jet because I’m so busy with school and more important things.

"Jet engine" my ass! First, there are rotor stages, but no corresponding stators. Second, the rotor "stages" don't compress the incoming air. They merely accelerate it. Finally, the continued accelerated combustion of the butane is reliant upon the electric motor. If this were indeed a jet engine, a set of turbine stages being turned by the expanding combustion gasses would draw in air trough the compressor stages and sustain the combustion in the burner "can". This is about as much a "jet engine" as lighting a fart.

That is an just an Afterburner with no Combustion chamber. If you used metal spacers instead of plastic, and welded the pieces together instead of super glue, you can add in fuel injection ports between the fin pairs in the middle of the engine (Combustion Chamber) with their own fuel tanks (lighters) - not wide open like you did with the Afterburner fuel tanks. Then you run the motor as a starter as you ignite the Cumbustion Chamber fuel, then shut off the motor. The engine should run slowly on its own. Then if you press the Afterburner tank buttons the thrust will increase.

Great effort and creativity in trying to explain a concept, Although not very accurate on the working principle of a jet engine .. Appreciate what you have done. Cheers.

definitely the right concept. as for how much thrust this particular engine outputs though....

It actually works exactly like a jet engine. All he has to do is get rid of the motor, clip the fuel tank on, and throw it like a dart.

There should be a compressor, combustion chamber and turbine. This is just an electric powered compressor, something that we could call a combustion chamber, but no turbine to spin the compressor. Please, take a look how jet engine works.
