    Incredible tutorials, very glad to have stumbled on this channel. What resources, if any, would you recommend for a newbie to have a better grasp on the concepts you tackle when manipulating sound with Ableton effects as well as some of the music theory? I would love to someday eventually be at the point you are with seamlessly editing and knowing what direction you want to take with a song and how to get there.

    Hey, thank you so much! If I had to start learning all this stuff again, I'd definitely say learn everything in your DAW before thinking of buying plugins or anything else. Just knowing how a basic synth works (they're all very similar) and what basic audio effects do and sound like will get you pretty far. As for music theory, just take it in small chunks. It's very helpful, but you definitely don't have to be an expert in it to make good sounding music. Trying to learn it all at once can be really overwhelming!

    @@khartbeats Thank you for the response and reassurance! I've been messing around a bunch in Ableton and getting just a little feel for the different effects. There's a ridiculous amount of knobs and settings to play around with, but these tutorials really help shed some light on what can be accomplished with different settings. All of your end results sound fantastic too. I appreciate the videos and looking forward to watching more!

    My KZread is kind of my fun, creative outlet where I get to make different genres and experiment. My Spotify, so far, has just been my more chill lofi beats. I’m starting to drift more towards electronic music, though, so I’m trying to decide on a new release strategy.

    I didn't know you took requests! This isn't really a request (unless you want to do it) but how would you approach making something like from the soundtrack to It Follows by disasterpiece in Ableton? Snyth-heavy, dissonant, weird time signatures, spooky and tense kind of music? I'd love any advice!

  • @khartbeats

    @khartbeats

    6 ай бұрын

    Ooh, I loved that movie when it came out haha. I just relistened to some of the soundtrack and I think you nailed quite a few of the elements. Definitely lots of dissonance and tension. Lots of darker sounds with a lot of distortion (and detuning?) in the lower end. Lots of pitch drift to kind of give that uneasiness that nothing is stable. That's a fun one to dissect.

  • @aesteroid

    @aesteroid

    6 ай бұрын

    @@khartbeats it is fun! probably wouldn't make for a very popular video though lol I guess I just don't really know how to make dissonance and tension while still making it sound musical, it always ends up as just noise. I'll keep trying though, thanks for the tips! Love your tutorials btw, I watched two of them back to back and it changed the entire way I used Ableton. I immediately subscribed and now I'm churning out basically a song a week

  • @khartbeats

    @khartbeats

    @@aesteroid yeah, dissonance can be difficult to make “musical.” I was listening to some darker ambient music earlier and it has some similar characteristics. Maybe I’ll try out something like that… it’s hard for me to make something without a defined rhythm, though 😂 And that’s so awesome the tutorials have been helpful! Keep cranking out the music!
