Man I miss Finch's casting, so much energy! Great video as always Betty! I remember watching this live and loved it, twitch chat crying about it being a boring game, whilst I was just enjoying the tactical play, one of the better games of season 7.

I agree it is cool to watch, but would not be in an extended meta.

i love the pacing of your videos, how you include little clips of like Dolson saying "it's Friday, that means it's SPL" to segue between the patch notes and the spl game, the way you cut a few seconds before and after every important scene to give some breathing room to process what's about to, and did just happen. Just the gross sum of small little editing techniques like that which just really makes the narrative so digestible and fun to watch, great job Dan :)

I just love these odd strategies being exploited to extremes like that, would love to see more of that. Also R.I.P. Finch, such a great caster and seemingly great guy aswell. Loved every second he casted.

I really think this should actually be possible again. Not like the strategy resulted in a complete stomp and it was an entertaining and frankly refreshing viewing experience. The SPL meta has become so clinical and stale. We could take some niche strategies for some excitement. Current pro games are just farming perfectly, then fighting for positioning till one teamfight or even one lucky pick wins it all. Imo strategies and team-wide coordination like this Horus example are way more hype than an individual outplay/missplay deciding the game. It's a teamgame afterall.

The problem is there’s no way to deal with it. At least 90% of characters and strategies now have a way to be dealt with. It’s not fun to watch a team basically kite the other team around, and then just do what old Loki would ._.

I always feel so bad for this Eunited team. Just duo lane issues all year thanks to the uncertainty of covid. Really screwed a team that had a lot of promise -not saying they would be the best btw but definitely better than what they were

I really liked that eUnited - they were doing the most janky, cheesy strats ever and yet it somehow worked. Easily the most unique team we had in the past couple of seasons.

Honestly I feel like a lot of this was actually just Horus being slept on. A lot of these plays were and are still possible, it’s just slower. You don’t really need to ult all the way to fire, you can go to the other side of back camps and it’s pretty much the same thing. Maybe throw a sprint in there if you feel like it. It reminds me of that Janus play (it was sometime during season 7 I think) where I think sanguine took right phoenix and Janus ulted to left and took it before they could get there. That’s still entirely possible today, it’s just not very popular.

@@BettySmite Alas, my obscure SPL knowledge is imperfect 😔 I wish we got to see more janky comps and strategies at this level. I’m convinced a team could get a guaranteed game win by drafting Nieth, Fafnir, The Morrigan, Kali, and Cthulhu. They would think they are setting up for a double Cthulhu late game and draft against it, but you actually go frenzy and bracer on fafnir and have morrigan turn into nieth and both nieths ult the same person as fafnir pops relics to one shot someone. It’s a one time use thing but late game you can just remove the problem player and win the team fight for free cause of Cthulhu and Kali.

man 2020 was so scuffed but also my favorite year for spl!

There's a particular set I'd love to see a video made of that I remember watching live, but I don't remember the exact teams. It was the end of an SPL season/split and it was the bottom team playing against the top team who'd already qualified for the next big tournament. The game essentially didn't matter for the either team, but if the bottom team one atleast one game another team would end up making the tournament. The bottom team ended up winning two in a row iirc in a complete underdog upset and the studio crowd went wild. Like I said I don't remember which teams exactly these were so if anybody could help me figure this out it'd be dope.

That was the Orbit vs Flash Point set, Orbit won it sending Luminosity to world's in 2017 instead of Flash Point going.

They should just call this manoeuvre the Horus gambit

So what I will say is that the difference between the percentages is actually really small because of huge diminishing returns on MS, so truthfully it wasn't that big of a nerf at all, just a slight toning down...

I don't understand what was supposed to be so OP here? The distance was extremely small compared to map size and the use was for ganking/escape. Nothing even slightly overpowered.

I thought this was an azir video from LoL cause i dont watch smite at all and got recomended a video about a bird god

I don't even play the game and even I can see how absurd that is. It's bad enough in league having cross map ults that let you bypass vision and back door with one person but an entire team seems insane

Yeah, Horus is pretty nuts. Especially if you build him full damage. But….there is gods even more nuts. But also his ult is useless if there is no team coordination. So it makes the games 50/50 with him.

His ult is pretty ass when team fighting, long windup and requires dumb amounts of teamwork. It's tactical, meaning if you can outsmart hours then his ult is useless.

Horus has an ultimate that lets him teleport himself and any friendly players or minions near him after about 4 -6 seconds of channelling. They buffed how far he could move in that time massively, and Genetics used it to teleport the team around the map faster than Sanguine could respond while avoiding all fights making it impossible to defend. Start up gold fury, then teleport them to fire giant and Sanguine has to somehow get from gold fury to fire giant before their very good objective damage comp could burn it, which couldn't be done. They nerfed the movement speed of Horus' targetter back down afterwards so that the meta didn't turn into split pushing and fight avoidance with little to no counterplay. they need to buff these towers,phoenixes and titan so badly. they just do 0 damage after level 5 and 1 defense item. I've tanked 8 tower shots and lived with like 1/4th my HP without full Thebes stacks which is sad cause I can't do that with any support in heroes of the storm or LoL

It’s because of the player base. You guys don’t want to admit it but you are nearly all guilty. Everyone spams the same fucking gods and same builds because you’re trying to emulate the pros and it’s cringe af. There is no such thing as going into a casual conquest game and running a slightly off-role character anymore because people will call you a troll and be toxic and critique anything and everything as if it’s the SPL championships. “That god is shit. Your build should have this item, this is how Weaken builds it. You HAVE to do this at this time because that’s how the SPL does it”. You guys need to understand THE META IS IRRELEVANT to 75%+ of people who play the game because you’re not at the skill level that those things matter as much as you think they do Don’t get me wrong, I see valid criticisms in game if the other team is crit heavy and the supp doesn’t have nemean/spectral or the other team has lots of healing and people aren’t building anti heal or one of the teammates needs a bit of help understanding their role. But people are so quick to be toxic and insult rather than to gently help and nearly NOBODY assumes responsibility for THEIR OWN mistakes. Everyone thinks they’re so good at the game and they’re the authority in every game they play because they spam watch the SPL and it’s so cringe. Like, dude, you wouldn’t be at 1500 MMR after 3000 in game hours if you were actually that good so stop talking as if you are and just play to have fun. Play the gods you want, not just the top 30 in some pro’s tier list. Play different game modes. Try a different build. I’m not saying to troll, but for fucks sake, treat the game like a game and HAVE FUN

Hirez has made some... "questionable" changes in their games. Most evident is Paladins. So many Champions either way too strong or way too weak. Just saying.

Sanguine would have won if they had Zapman. He's a 3 time world champion.

And yet Mulan is still not nerfed since her release....
