Always remember that no matter what FXs you put on your vocals, the way you sing, the tone of your voice AND how you recorded your tracks will always influence a lot the end result.

So true. I learned that when I tried to replicate a Daleks voice. It was not just the ring modulator, you had to shout real angry to make it work

Extra tip: For Psyclon Nine vocals, just whisperscream. It's decently easy, and it processes insanely well.

100%, most terror ebm singers are whispering. Every vocal needs different settings though. The voice, the mic, the distance ...everything can affect the settings and the end result.

Same. Every time I see him post about aggrotech I stop what I'm doing and watch immediately lol

I remember reading in tapeop that a lot of the Luxa/Pan vocals used chained Distressors to achieve that sort of razor-vocal distortion that was still intelligible. The first would smash things and the second would add heat, and then they’d be dry-wet mixed appropriately.

Never in a million years did I expect to see a video about this. 😅

I really do wish more videos like these were around when I first started. Perhaps it would've taken less years upon years of trial and error on my part 😅 For my own band, I basically use a combination of Stolon and stock FL Studio Chorus/Flanger and Distortion layered under "clean" screams and vocals to basically get the effect without going full on Aggrotech. It's worked pretty well for me, anyway.

Haha I feel you! Over the years I probably watched thousands of videos that had no link whatsoever with dark music and tried to apply it to whatever I was making. I figured I would help other producers so they could skip years of trial and errors hehe

Awesome, finally it's clearly explained. I read that the Boss SE-50's patch 112 (pitchshifter) was how bands such as Psyclon Nine and Unter Null did it in the mid-2000s.

Yes, I do have it here. I could make a video on it too. The problem with these machines is that they're getting hard to find and they have a battery that you have to change too. Also softwares can replicate the effect pretty easily. 🤘🏻

As a lover of the genre for 25 years, and a DJ, (not a music producer) I can say that this is the best and easy to understand tutorial I've ever watched! Even if I don't make music, I can understand all the points! Thanks for your awesome way to explain things, keep going! Greets from México 🇲🇽!

haha thanks for the comment. When I started producing music also 20 years ago. I wish I had tutorials like this. So I made one! Even though it's not a style of music that is trendy anymore, I still enjoy my good old Tactical Sekt and SC from time to time! :) Glad you liked it 🤘

haha yeah It's not the type of vocals that is trendy right now. But I felt that there wasn't any proper tutorials on that topic. Aggrotech just abused the FXs haha Many bands use/used that technique too, it's just a bit more subtle hehe

Another secret to aggrotech vocals is instead of screaming, you push a whisper out loudly. Little bit of technique to it since you use your diaphragm for it. Not many harsh ebm bands actually scream and apply these effects to it. But, not saying screaming is the wrong way to do it. Just a different sound.

yeah you're 100% right, most bands ''whisper scream'' to get that sound. It all depends what FXs you're using too and type of sound you're going for. I prefer the ''real'' scream though haha That Black metal scream 👌

I don't know his exact process, but yeah it's pretty much the same technique :) First albums were made with a BOSS SE-50 I believe.

I used to sing through an amp login to get distortion and reverb. Processing with an EQ to fine tune the sound and then I’d add chorus and tremolo. But this was with slam type metal that was bouncy and ugly distorted guitars. Think Metalzone distortion on guitars and the kick. 😝 Sounds nasty but I got the vibes I was after.

Since I'm finding it complicated myself so maybe someone would welcome a similar tutorial here, I think it goes more in depth. But of course thanks for your contribution too! kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKicyauvnZmenbw.html

Or just buy a BOSS SE 50... And by the way, I have no idea what you did or used in the video. I will just have to figure it out on my own. A list of the VSTs or plugins would have been stellar.

I do have an SE50. The battery has to be changed and it's WAY more useful to use plugins, especially live :) Also it's ALL cubase stock plugins except the pitch shifter which the name is actually on the plugin. You can also press pause and copy the settings. I didn't want to make a too long video explaining each knobs when you can just copy the settings. And if you don't have Cubase you can also use different distortion, EQs, choruses with almost the same results by following the steps :)
