How To Make GoPro Footage Look Incredible // Part 2/2

Спорт

Part 2/2 from my GoPro and action cam series is here! In this tutorial video, I cover exactly how I take my raw, unprocessed GoPro footage and turn it into sharp, vibrant video, ready to share with friends around the world. For me, it's all about creating action cam video that is as close to the real-life experience as possible, which is easier said than done sometimes! With these simple techniques, I feel like I can get it pretty close... now just to figure out how to show people how damn steep some of these trails really are ;)

The Loam Ranger, I have a question, if you have like 20 clips would you have to colour correct them individually or can you use a template to correct all the clips at once. Oh and I came to this video because of the video you just mentioned and I loved it, you are so helpful and honest. Keep up the good work!

You can do an adjustment layer on top of the clips and color grade the adjustment layer witch will affect the clips.

@@kirbinTime I can answer this for you. You color correct one first. then select/highlight clips that you want to apply the same settings in the "color" tab/screen. use the mouse wheel click to click on the color corrected one and it will just copy those settings for you.

If you see right above Gamma there are three dots for different windows and you are in the first. If you click over to the third dot there are actual settings for Shadow, Midtone, and Highlights Not sure if this will change your editing process as it already looks good, but figured I'd share the discovery :)

You can use the the white and the black cross next to Gain and lift to set the brightest and darkest points of the image. It does a pretty good job. You just click on the cross, then click on the image for what you want to set. The Autowhitebalance is also pretty good, and does make the job very easy. Espacially the snow shot would take like 3 clicks and youre done. :)

I've always wondered why my Hero 4 black footage was crappy, I have a SJCam M20, which knocked the spots off the gopro, both on standard auto settings. I read that the focus on the gopro could actually be out, and after messing with the lens, still never managed to get the quality I was expecting/hoping for. Great video you have done, i'm now going to start the experimenting with the setting. It would be great if you could do small video clips explaining each of the individual settings in protune so novices like me could get out the camera, look at the weather and tap in your recommended settings for the type of day, giving us an idea why.. Either way, I've learnt a lot, thank you. Kind regards.

Thanks again for the first tip. So I replaced my settings which is the same as BKXC before to yours, but my footage turned out to be dull and blurred I didn't know what went wrong so I went back to BKXC setting for the time being. Now I'm gonna watch this video of yours. of course I commented before watching it. Thanks Mate.

Finally, once I have edited, can I upload and share on on google photos or iPhotos?

The learning curve when switching is pretty strong, but the amount of tools you have *for FREE* vs a paid program like vegas pro is just insane. Hey mate, had one more question as well - I went for a motorbike ride on the weekend and I've just had my first crack at editing based on this video. My issue is that at the start of the ride it was quite cloudy and by the end it was very sunny, with several parts of the ride under dense trees. I know you covered it all individually, but is there any way to 'split / adjust' the colour corrections across different sections of a video? Hoping you have another video... Cheers!

  • @englok

Im not very good at editing, but I know one thing that could potentially help you out: In resolve, when you are in the Edit tab, find a nice place where you want to change the settings in teh video. If you hit B or the "razor edit mode", this will allow you to split out clips from other clips. This way I think you can do what TLR did in the video, and set the different color settings for each individual clip. (Havent tried it myself, but I've used the razor edit mode a couple of times, and it makes sense :P ) And please shame me if you tried it and it didnt work :D

Great tutorial. Very informative. I downloaded and tried DaVinci last week. Unfortunately my laptop didn't quite got the muscles for it, so I tried Filmora instead. Cost you a few and maybe not as feature packed as DaVinci. But close enough. But then, due to a Avast update followed by a Windows update, my laptop went blank. Found a fix, which I spend all night last night trying without any luck. So I'll try again tonight. And hopefully I soon will get the chance to try out all the magic I've learned :) Then back to experimenting on camera settings (4k or 2.7? (less file size, a tad more out of the batteries) Superview or Wide? (maybe cropping 4:3 to 16:9?) Till then, have a good one!

FlowPublican - I use Davinci Resolve on Windows. To copy the grade applied to a clip, click the node, press CTRL + C, then click on the next clip, click the node, then press CTRL + V. If your clip has more than one node, then you need to do it repeat this for each node.

You can right click on the main image in the viewer of a colour corrected scene and "Grab Still". It will put a still image off to the left. When you want to apply the same grading to another scene, just select the scene and right click on the still image and select "Apply Grade".
