Thanks for watching, iv been personally looking for a video showing how to build a custom race wheel, and I couldn't find anything of value so I made this video thinking others might be looking for the same. Thanks for watching and commenting on this video.

Thanks for making this video! If this was your first time doing a project like this, in retrospect, is there anything that you would do differently the next time? @Greg Whaley yeah was the first time building a custom wheel, but me being a artist first and a car guy after, iv taken on plenty of projects that was basically the same concept. There are plenty of ways to approach this type of project. Would I change how iv done it 🤔 NOPE! Would I try another method in the future 🤔 MAYBE! I myself was looking for some type of video on youtube about making wheels and some was just basic wooden wheel or with a process so technical makes you think twice about doing it. So this was bare bone understanding of how to accomplish something like this. Thanks for the comment 👍🏽 I appreciate it!! 💯

It is not lighter it actually would be a little heavier then original. It's just a appearance application. To get a real carbon wheel it would need to be created in a mold.

@@TheInkhousecustoms I was so in doubt at the beginning. I am completely ignorant on how this whole thing is done so when I see you adding bondo to make the shape, applying raggedy carbon fiber that looks like shredded fiber from a bums jeans I was very doubtful. But I stuck through the video and you definitely knew what you were doing and I was astounded.

@Gary Miller lol, you have to sift through the mud to find diamond's and gold.
So awesome! I plan on tackling this project, the video was fast so I have a question, how did you make the division between the leather and carbon fiber?
@TheInkhousecustoms
Жыл бұрын
@SBdunks I used a dremel with a cut-off wheel. One word of advice run the Carbon a little passed your mark where you'll cut, so the carbon will transition better with the leather.
Another question but what did you sand up to for the spray clear coat and did you use a 1k clear or 2k currently working on another wheel but not sure how far I gotta sand it to grit wise for spray clear coat?
@TheInkhousecustoms
5 ай бұрын
The last set of sanding before clear is 600 grit. I add two coats of clear then sand with 1000 grit and clear one more time.
Another great video thanks man hey just a quick question what leather or what did you use for that ? Could you get me a link ?
@TheInkhousecustoms

Yeah NP the site is: www.texasfabricsandfoam.com/ and the material is call xtreme black. It's a vinyl material.
Good job man! Amazing ! How many epóxi applications you did after put the fiber cloth ? Do you think it’s necessary use a UV epóxi ?
@TheInkhousecustoms
3 жыл бұрын
@caio Henrietta I applied 1 coat of epoxy set dry to tacky not stringing, the lay cloth. After cloth set dry I applied 2 coats, sand and reapplied an additional 2 coats. Make sure to let epoxy to set dry to tack each coat.. UV epoxy not necessary . last thing to do is flat surface and spray automotive clear coat, will solve the uv issues.

Just curious how long did you wait to removed the tape
@TheInkhousecustoms

24 hr, FYI the tape is used inside out, sticky side up.
Awesome job quick questions though. When you started the leather wrap, what did you fill that gap between the carbon fiber and the leather with? Also need you finish stitching did you remove that fill to tuck the leather in?
@TheInkhousecustoms
2 жыл бұрын
@ITSBIGDEE I filled the gap with body filler, I filled the gap cause it was a bit to big. I cut Back the carbon to flatten it, which left a big gap so filled it enough to fit the vinyl.

@@TheInkhousecustoms one last question the pc11 you used. How long did it take for that to cure for you to start sanding?
@TheInkhousecustoms

@ITSBIGDEE good question, I always let my epoxy set overnight about 18 to 24 hrs. But yhe pc11 sets in about a hr or two should be safe to shape then let it set before any other work.

@@TheInkhousecustoms appreciate that info. I’m starting on my own steering wheel. I wish there was a way to brighting up the red carbon fiber. I tried it on a accent piece and it just was just to dark. May have to take a stab at hydro dipping.
