Fear is from not understanding... well, also sometimes boldness is too, but it isn't necessary an unsafe thing. Like anything worth doing, a little understanding goes a long way.

People were just badass back then. I bet they told them that they could blow up and die any second and all the young men were like "sign me up buddy!!!" These were the same people that fought the first world war and raised the generation that fought the second! Tough bastards each and every one of them!

They still make Dynamite in much the same way today as they did back then. It's all mostly done by hand and shovels. I made it for over 20 years in every process. You would be surprised how many roughnecks still live today. We aren't gone. Just wore out. Lol

@@timothysanders1387 That's incredible. I didn't think dynamite was still produced because of the instability of nitro glycerine.

Wow I'm amazed how rough they handle the nitroglycerine ! I guess the sensitivity of this stuff is over rated. They just squirt it out of hoses and splash it around !! And the quantity they move around in those hand carts. I've heard that a liter of the stuff would kill everyone in a 10 meter radius. Workers back then must have been expendable !!! Ha! Ha!

+notsogreat123 I am also amazed/shocked. When I was watching the video, my stomach contracted in pretty uncomfortable way ... I read that they called that cart "Angel cart" or something alike. For obvious consequences for the driver in the case of accident. Anyway - fascinating yet scary movie :)

They add a substance to the glycerin so it wouldn't be as sensitive to moving around and splashing.

Dynamite is not TNT. Dynamite is NG mixed with diatomaceous earth or wood pulp. TNT is a triple nitration of toluene. There is a significant difference in sensitivity, detonation velocity, and energy density. It's also absolute insane that he was touching the Dynamite with his bare hands. Nitroglycerin headaches are absolutely excruciating. IYKYK
