How To Make Dremel Rotary Tool Accessory Abrasive Wheel For Cheap

www.scrollsawvideo.com
Watch and see how we made a very inexpensive rotary tool accessory and put it to use. This homemade item costs a fraction of what the big box stores sells them for.

Awesome idea, I stopped halfway through to get my tools and accessories needed to make one. After testing one I made more but I adjusted the design slightly. I used shorter bolts with slightly larger washers. I also ground down the threads about 1/4-1/3 up. Plus I put a small dab of hot glue to secure the nut. Looking forward to more DIY clips

Yes… Always wear safety glasses. Especially when using a table saw. Safety glasses make it a lot easier to see where your fingers landed just before you pass out.

I suggest you put two washers slightly smaller then the desired diameter of the abrasive wheel you are making, one on each side. You will be surprised how well it works

That's a great and "less expensive" idea, (dremel nevera could be cheap) i hace a recomendation for the balance, make the Bolt more short. And use it with no more than 10k rpm to polish. For near 6 dollars You created a awesome idea

Keep the length of screw close to what most Dremel bits are, the violent vibration after running it on the wood is a result of the screw bending and become off balance. The mild steel for most screws can easily bend so use the largest screw that can be chucked on would add durability.

Hey Karl, I can see how this would come in handy. As you said, a dust mask and safety glasses are a must. Eyes and lungs are hard to come by. The Dremel dust blower really helps too. Thanks for the video.

It's not the dremel brushes that are making the rough rattle sound at high speeds. The nut, bolt, and scotch pads are unbalanced. I have to agree with Sayeds comment about the washers. They will make it more stable. I feel that you might be underestimating your audiences intelligence level. I know I don't have to go to Home Depot to buy scotch pads. I realize that is okay. Most people can cut a circle. I can't do a good one but your trick really didn't work out so well. If anybody knows a link to some free video editing software, could you post a link for this gentleman. The vids could use some streamlining. You do speak clearly though. I can understand everything you say. Kudos.

How do you get different abrasiveness? Commercial wheels often have various grit ratings, starting at roughly 60/80 grit and going to about 360/400 grit. Does Scotch-Brite make pot scrubbers in different abrasive ratings? By the way, third-party abrasive wheels are much cheaper (usually about .30¢ purchased in bulk).

I think it could be your homemade accessory that is off balance, the second dremel didn't sound so hot either on high speed, maybe the hole is not in the center of the pad or the screw is not truly straight. I mean before you spend money and time check on that first.

If you spent a couple hundred on two dremels, then I think you could afford to buy a new file, rather than restoring a crappy one. My rotary tool kit cost me $32 dollars at Harbor Freight (a savings compared to a Home Depot Dremel kit at $128 dollars), and includes many buffing and sanding heads & accessories. The cheaper kit went for $29 dollars, but I liked this one better for just a few more $$$’s.
