    I know this was uploaded a couple years ago, but just know this is still helping students like myself. I was stuck on this concept and my textbook makes everything sound and look much more complicated than it really is. Thank you for simplifying this and making it more understandable.

    So for histograms you would use class boundaries, and bar graphs you would use the whole number values like 46-56?

  • @helpyourmathstat

    @helpyourmathstat

    3 жыл бұрын

    A histogram represents the frequency distribution of continuous variables. Conversely, a bar graph is a diagrammatic comparison of discrete variables. Histogram presents numerical data whereas bar graph shows categorical data. The histogram is drawn in such a way that there is no gap between the bars. Our example is Histogram for Discrete Data. Boundaries help to cover the gaps. Therefore, for histograms we would use class bondaries for discrete data(not continuous data). Bar graphs are for discrete data. When you have continuous data (such as a person's height) then use a Histogram, not a bar graph. Please watch our new video about discrete and continuous data, kzread.info/dash/bejne/m4Sat7N6obnOgLQ.html, thanks!

    Pls sir, why do you still round up the class width when the decimals are not up to 5

  • @helpyourmathstat

    @helpyourmathstat

    5 жыл бұрын

    For Class Width, round up the dividend to the next whole number. If your dividend is 2.4, round it up to 3. This is not the same as the normal rules of rounding.

    You mean upper boundary is the same as the next lower boundary? That's True.

    Class limits are the smallest and the biggest data in the data set. Class Boundaries are needed for Discrete Data Set, such as the number of people. We don't want gaps for Histogram. If 1 - 10 and 11 - 20 are the numbers of people from 1 to 10 and 11 to 20, there is a gap between 10 and 11. We use class boundary 11.5 to connect them.

    why we will add and subtract 0.5 ....i mean could add and substract any other number to the bounday value.....so why 0.5... please tell me

    NO, The lower boundary of each class is calculated by subtracting half of the gap value from the class lower limit. The gap for this problem is 1, because we have all positive integers. Therefore, 1/2 = 0.5. On the other hand, the upper boundary of each class is calculated by adding half of the gap value to the class upper limit.
