    This is by far the best tutorial for creating this bass and I have watched many, well done! I managed to create similar sound with Synth1 but struggled with many other synths like ES2 or Alchemy. Seems like the sound requires something specific from the synth!

    Can you make any recommendations about replicating the sound you get from Ohmicide with FL studio's built-in distortion effects? If you know how to get the distortion to even come close, that would be great.

    Hey Nigel i got a question for ya! i'm trying to make a remix for "phendrana drifts" from metroid prime with more of a vein in the M83 side of synthwave, so far i'm pulling influences from the track "oblivion" since they both have the same BPM but having trouble getting a drum section that works, it typically sounds like two tracks played parallel any ideas how to solve this?

    I've tried to recreate those basslines in Sylenth, but i don't have even any skill in music at all. But I still liked Sylenth a bit more though, if you could understand how it works I think you may make any desired sound

    For anyone watching in 2021, you can make all 3 SAW instruments + distortion in 1 Patcher. Then save the patcher preset and you got an instrument.

    @@abrahamphilip302 In the Mix SeamlessR Both those guys use patcher a lot in their tutorials. In the Mix does a better job of teaching a full tutorial on it. You tube botches up comments with direct links so youll have to do a search for patcher with their names.

    @@abrahamphilip302 But to put it basically. You make an instrument in the channel / pattern area. Use the plugin "patcher" as the instrument. Right click the background and select "to add a plugin". Then start adding the plugin instrumnents to patcher. After that use the green and yellow arrows to draw pathways the sound will follow between plugins to the output. Doubleclick any plugin in patcher to open it up and tweak settings.

    Amazing video, I've been trying to create this sound for 2 years! I bought IL Harmless because of this video...I use cubase 6.5, I managed to recreate this sound but it keeps crashing cubase :(

    I get a really annoying volume spike right at the beginning when played through the piano roll. I used the presets which work fine except for 'The Encounter Brut 2' preset which has the same irritating volume spike. Does anyone else have a similar issue and solution?

    Nice tutorial. It'd be cool if you took the time to explain what all of the knobs and settings do and and see you experiment to get there, though. Right now it feels more like following a recipe without really understanding why it works, and that's what I really want to know so that I can make my own sound. I know it'd be a lot longer, but I'd gladly watch hours worth of that. Either way, thanks!

    Just getting started with FL studio. I followed the tutorial but your sound is considerably faster than mine. I changed time signature to fit more notes in, but how do I get the notes to play faster without messing with the BPM?

    Zoom right in and make your note lengths short enough that you can fit 32 of them per bar, but then program them with gaps between just like a regular 16ths. Alternatively just fill all 16 steps on the step editor and then open the piano roll and shorten every note. (Highlight all, hold ALT and drag to the left is one method).

    this might be a noobie question, but while making the melodies i cant help but hear that using piano roll, during the attack of the note, the rise from all the bass, it gives a precussive sound due to this rise, and during your melodies, i couldnt help but hear that there was no attack, but a continuation, almost like you used a stutter effect, what am i doing wrong to not achieve this effect.

    Hello, my dude. I don't know if you've already discovered this, but after much knob-turning and experimenting, I found out that the way to achieve that effect is to turn the "phase" knob next to "Timbre" all the way to the right. Hope I helped you.

    And here I am still using Sunvox.. Honestly, the fact that I'm still not using FL Studio has transitioned into me just being stubborn.. I'm gonna stick with it for just a little bit longer, since I'm trying to deliver a somewhat decent EP solely using free tools. Albumtime, yeah I'm gonna reach for FL.. Or Bitwig, or Renoise, or possibly I'll stick with free tools depending on how well the EP is received.. Time to make a soundcloud account.. Thanks for sharing Nigel, this'll get me started with some nice darkwave.

    The short notes are playing 16ths, but have the length of 32nds. i.e. if you zoomed in and placed them right next to each other, you could fit in 32 per bar.

    I actually got a cb/perturbator style distorted lead in caustic(a mobile daw of all things!) with a slightly tweaked default preset on a fairly simple subtractive synth mixed with some distortion and chorus, I can give the project file if anyone wants it :D
