How to make dandelion salve - excellent for aching muscles and arthritis

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A full walk through with recipe on how to make this excellent salve for aches and pains. Good for inflammation and arthritis plus it smells great and leaves your skin super soft.
Instructions:
Half fill a clean jam jar with dandelion petals.
Cover with olive oil and fill to the top and leave for 10 days, invert every now and again to mix. Strain and measure out half a cup of the dandelion oil. Put this into a double boiler over a very low heat and add 10g of bees wax (I used pellets). Once this has dissolved, add in 10g shea butter. Dissolve and remove from the heat.
Add in 12 drops each of lavender essential oil and sweet orange essential oil.
Pour into jars and leave to set before sealing.
You can get the beeswax pellets here:

@@shanac5536 hello Shana. Tiger balm is great! I also use it sometimes and also a capsaicin cream which is similar. The dandelion salve doesn't give that burn though so there's no worry about putting on too much or making sure it's totally washed off hands afterwards 😅

As a herbal fairy which has made her own salve for years and learned from her mistakes: please rinse the glass jars with alcohol (vodka will do nicely) to avoid mold building before you fill them with the salve. Another measure against mold: never go into the salve with your fingers. Rather use a spatula made of wood or steel. I have 2 steel spatulas for applying my salve on my skin. Thirdly: deep freeze the salve you do not have in use. That way it holds longer and also is prevented from mold. I would also make an essence with dandelion petals and alcohol since some phytochemicals are only oil soluble whereas others are only water soluble. Mixing them both into a salve makes it more holistic since you have all phytochemicals of the plant represented. Thank you for this nice receipe. I will definitely make my own version. Love to always learn from other herbal fairies. Please stay safe and take care. Warm greetings from a very cold and rainy Germany where I currently cant collect any herbs since they are much to wet.

Steph.... I asked Rose some questions and thought maybe you'd see this comment 1st. She says to steep dandies for 9 days. Others have said 6 weeks and another said all winter. Rose only used the yellow bits. Others used the whole dandy. You seem to be very experienced... what do you do? Also... essential oils are pain relievers themselves. How do you know dandys reduce pain in itself?

  • @hdmm9136

    @hdmm9136

@@destinycoach5 6 weeks it optimal. Any shorter duration of time is usually aided with a low heat source to speed things up. As for the greens it comes down to personal preference. Essential oil are volatile oils. Many are not safe unless heavily diluted. I'd be trying dandelion salve for my aches before I'd put essential oils on my skin. Remedies that have been around for thousands of years. It may work for you, it may not. And when she mentions " a bit off" there is a chance of mold because of the water content in the plant. They should actually be left to dry to a day or 2 or antibacterial/antimicrobial things added to aid. Example, tea tree or black poplar sap.

  • @destinycoach5

@@hdmm9136 thanks so much for the info. So I should keep the mixture for 6 weeks not two? I use essential oils. They help with pain a great deal. They limber up stiff joints. Why do you call them volatile? (Aside from fact that they can be dangerous if you don't use properly. I had a bad experience when I started. I made a just a small dandelion jar since 99.9% of dandelions had turned to white before I saw this but I didn't let them dry. I did collect some seeds to grow some and try making salve with fresh healthy dandelion as opposed to the small left overs i found once all had headed b4 i got to them. Do you use whole head or just the yellow bits? Should they dry? So I'd like to know more about what you said regarding some petals in oil and some in alcohol then mixing. Tks again

I was told to take extra b vitamins so i take "Vitamin Code Raw B complex" but not the full amount. Of course you do what your body needs. Something I found out when making lip balm (similar process, melt together equal parts of beeswax, shea/cocoa butter and coconut oil, add essential oils or others) is that, if they took too long to cool down and solidify, the texture would become a bit granular. Since I noticed it, I let them cool down outside or in the fridge, that way the texture is nice and even.

Living in China the last twenty years, you know spring is here when you the older people are out on any peice of grass with a knife and bag pulling them out. The roots are good but bitter, delicious dipped in some fermented salty bean paste, the leaves eaten the same way, or dried and used as a tea for antiinflammatory, but the Flowers never used. The locals get curious when I'm picking the flower for dandelion wine. It's funny to think there are places in the West that you can get fined for having too many dandelions on your lawn, when in fact it is such a useful resource.

Being middle age, suffering from severe, bone twisting types of arthritis, due to yrs of so called "dr's medications", l can appreciate & prefer "Natural" remedies. l collect my petals, as the sun is setting, when the flowers that were opened that day, begin to close. When collecting, grab end of petals & give gentle tug. lf it's ready, petals will easily come out of flower head, without seed &/or pod, leaving seeds to naturally re-seed. lf not using immediately, l'll dehydrate. 0r, I leave them overnight, in a warm dry area, (warm oven), on a sheet pan, or some type of container that let's me spread them out. My garden has been filled with dandelions this season! They generously offered themselves to be picked for me to make this. They sat for 13 days, and smell amazing without any added essential oils. I used soy wax in place of the beeswax and added lavender, lemon and few drops of tea tree oil! It is absolutely gorgeous! Think I am the only person to tender and Plant up Dandelion Seedlings for more of them. Who needs perfect Grass. 🙃 Will have to make up some of your Salve. Got Dandelions, plenty of Bees Wax, (Hives a plenty.) 😉 And a little Olive Oil left. Its so Expensive now ! (Could Canola Oil be used instead ?) as the Steeping/Carrier oil ? Just need some Shea Butter / Solid Coconut and maybe move a few Bee Boxes and Frames about in my Garden Apiary to get 'some Aches'. 😉 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Hi from a somewhat Cold Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 due to a last blast of Winter Chills. I've just made mine with fresh leaves. I could find my shea butter..so I used mango butter. I ran out of lavender & orange oil..so I used rose oil. I'll let you know how it does in terms of pain etc...but I thank you for the video...I enjoyed making it. God bless.

Great video thank you. I will definitely be giving it a go. I have made calendula salve which ,I believe , also has healing abilities. It’s made in a similar way with coconut oil olive oil and beeswax and has cured the cracked skin on my heals .😊✌️💕

When I make dandelion jelly I bring my measuring cup out to the field and just pick and pluck. I can't give a number but I would say Its about an hour per cup of pick and pluck

Hello Rose, I made your salve. It made six 2oz jars. I was amazed by the instructions you gave. They were just right. It has helped my dry hands. Thank you for a quick and easy video to follow. It was fun to make as well. I had to listen and watch several times to make sure I got it right. Others who tried my salve thought it was amazing that it was easy to make. Hopefully, they enjoy the salve as much as I am. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

@@rosesallotmentadventures9365hello, I wanted to share with you what I did and it turned out great. I went out and picked more dandelions. I did two jars. I made one with grape seed oil and the other with avocado oil. Both did very well. I gave some to some friends and they liked it. The avocado oil was a bigger hit. Grape seed oil took a little longer to soak in, like the olive oil. I enjoyed trying out your recipe. Thank you.

Hello ,I have made yarro salve with great success . I will ; I hope to make Dandelion salve . This is easier being that you do not have to simmer ,steep the yarro 4-6 hours before cooling to congeal . Thankyou , Clayton ..
