Can I make all the brake lines in my car from a $15 coil of brake tubing? Since I'm running dual master cylinders a several of the brake lines and fitting need to be custom. In this video I show you how to measure, bend, cut and flare your brake lines.

    Hated doing my brake and fuel lines. Fortunately, they weren't as complicated as yours. Good talk at the end, Tom. Motivation maintenance is incredibly important and something people don't always consider when it's a multi-year labor of love!

    Tom - your channel definitely helps me stay motivated on my project. Watching you wade into uncharted waters with your thoughtful planning gives me a lot of confidence to get out there and try it myself. My 74 Carrera sat unloved for way to long (years). Brakes were bad, CIS injection was locked upon, and the gas tank was bad. I now have it running again, brakes are redone (as well as a pedal box overhaul), and now I only need to swap out the gas tank. New tires and a few cosmetic things and I will be back out on the road pretty quick. Thanks - I hope you keep up the excellent videos!!

    Love your channel and your approach to restoring a car. My Porsche is a 996 and it will never go through a resto like your are doing. I do have three Saab 900s that I have restored. Your advice and insight is spot on to keep the motivation going.

    Garage Time - Restomod yes! QQ how were you able to get photos of the placements of your brake lines or photo sections of your Porsche restore for reference? Website or service manual?

    @@leominster24 I just googled it. I find that many 911's aren't messed with too much. 356s are a different story, so I rely on the workshop manuals more.

    Great video. Really liked seeing the quality flaring tool. There are times when it’s worth stepping up and putting down the extra dollars for such a tool. It will last a lifetime, and it’s surprising how often it gets used. Not to mention a buddy will thank you big time when their project benefits from you having it. 👍

    Another great video Tom, thanks for taking the time to put them together & share. I’m also working my way through a 1972T project and have almost got the speed wobbles a few times, but never progressed to a psyched out tank slapper. As much as the tech problem solving / solutioning helps solve technical problems, I think all of us in the same boat sharing our journey and proving that it is do-able for one guy in his shed unites and gives us confidence and inspiration to carry on.     Your comments at the end. How to inspire yourself on your projects. Just do something! Clean around it. Organise around it. Look around at the project and live in the moment deciding what to work on next. That dread/uneasy/complicated feeling is just nature messing with you. Get busy! Even if busy is turning on the lights and standing there. Old philosopher said; As we think we will become. Think what's next! Think I'm on it! Think about and do! Knowing is not enough; We must do!     Another thought....my PTFE -20AN lines that I made for my radiator hoses are okay, but I can't figure out how to make them look like a pro did it. Any tips with that? I'm tackling the smaller -6AN fuel hoses next.

    I haven't figured out how to replicate the tight bends close to the ends that the factory performed. It's tough to get a 90 degree bend out at the end of the line.

    Right, the factory has custom tooling for sure. Are you flaring the big one or using compression fittings? If compression, then leave the tubing long, then bend it and cut off the excess. Or you could modify the flaring tool. It's always a puzzle!

    So the Porsche has bubble flares. That is one step short of making a double flare. I used double flares on all of my stuff, just because of the tube nuts and brake fittings that was on the C5 brakes that I put on my ole 70 Camaro.

    Also when doing brake lines order a little more than you need. You will make mistakes and nothing kills progress like 2-3 shipping.
