I cannot convey how much I appreciate you sharing this with us! This was very special, not many people are willing to share their family recipes. There are people that may argue that some of the steps taken were unnecessary. But those steps are what made this recipe Artisanal. I think the most important steps that people would tend to skip are the ultra pasteurization and the cold "cure" of the liqueur. When high proof alcohol is chilled in the freezer is mellows the "bite" and changes the mouth feel. That is why Russian Vodkas are normally served very, very cold.

I could watch this beautiful video 100 times. It gives me such joy, and inspiration. I made my first batch, really not knowing anything about what it would taste like, since I never had any Limoncello before. It was Heavenly! I dream of moving to Italy's ALMAFI Coast, raise lemons, and make this Wonderful treat. Thank you!

You are very lucky. My grandma passed away 29 years ago. I was just 4 years old. I don't remember about her nothing. My mother honored her memories many times. I jealous you a little bit. I wish many healty and happy many years for her. God bless to your family.

A few summers ago, I had the best drink ever. We hiked to the top of Vesuvius (Napoli) and all the way at the end, we bought some Crema De Meloncello. Now I can make it myself!

Just made my first limoncello. So delicious. I am visiting my in-laws in Sicily in a months time. I will grab some lemons from the garden and the 96% alcohol since you can't get that where I live. I used 70% for the limoncello.
I love that you make her smile. Vincenzo, please tell your nonna that we love her. She's invited to Poland, and I'm sure so many places around the world (and so are you, as a translator of course, hahaha).
I wish I could upload a picture to show you the fruits of my labor! I followed Nonna's recipe and OMG! This stuff is so good! It was my first time making something like this. Grazie mille, Vicenzo and Nonna for this recipe. Top-notch!

Friend of mine gave me a recipe very similar. It took years being friends with an Italian regular before he would finally share the recipe with my friend. Friend also did a variation that was half lemon, half lime, with basil and it was delicious! Buddy’s recipe is 1.75L everclear 12 lemons zest - set aside for at least 3 days 1 gallon (3.8L) 2% milk 2 quarts whole cream 4 lbs sugar 1 Tbsp vanilla extract Bring dairy to almost a boil and right before boiling, mix in the sugar. Once mixed, refrigerate until cool. Then add everclear into the milk solution. Let sit together for another day or two before straining through a sieve/mesh filter. Same as yours though - best frozen, and it gets better the longer it has.

ciao vincenzo, ho scoperto una variante incredibile per il limocello normale. Ho usato meta limoni e meta cedri, ho fatto marinare le bucce per un mese/ mese e mezzo e poi invece di fare lo sciroppo con zucchero normale ho usato quello di canna. (L'ho diluito con sciroppo normale perchè dominava troppo i limoni, però quella miscela secondo me ha migliorato il limoncello.) . dovresti assolutamente provarla! :)))

One evening, we got Limoncello to our espresso! Man, I thought of you, said to my husband: "That Limoncello, Vincenzo would have LOVED!" You must really try that place - even the locals gather there, ´cause the food is celicious and the spirit are high. Bring your dear Nonna, she is gonna love that place, typical Sicilian and loveable

Is the milk boiled just to melt/dissolve the sugar? Or is there another reason to boil the milk? Also, love seeing Nonna in these videos!

Great video, thank you. I have just returned from Lake Garda in Italy where I was introduced to creme Limoncello for the first time. I loved it so much I bought some home with me and now it's nearly gone I want to make my own. I have a couple of questions, when you put it in the freezer, does it freeze in the bottle? If so, once it's frozen do you thaw it out and then leave it in the fridge? many thanks.

so it is ok if the milk will create kind of small flakes when mixed with alcohol as I see in the video, you just need to shake it from time to time, correct?
Does cooking the milk denature the proteins and prevent it from curdling? Also is the base alcohol 95% (ever clear) or 95 proof (strong vodka)?
Thank god we have a lemon tree.

Absolutely, if you can't find pure alcohol, using a good quality vodka is a great alternative for your crema di limoncello recipe.

Vincenzo chiede…. quanto ci sta nel congelatore…. un annetto ? E la nonna dice…. non ci si arriva ! In poche parole in famiglia viene fatto fuori molto presto. 😅
