How to Make Creamy Body Wash

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Did you know you can make your own body wash with a couple of bars of soap. I made a batch for our family and we all really like it. It’s creamy, thick and cost so much less than body wash from the store.

I know this is late tot eh party, but if you're still interested, regular tap water could have caused the problem because of chemicals like chlorine. Try with regular cheap distilled water.

Good and very cost effective. If using another type of soap, one could add some coconut or almond oil for more moisturising, about 1 tablespoon plus 1 tablespoon of glycerin.

The soap itself is already preserved, so there's no need to add any more preservative. I've been making it for years, and It will definitely hold up especially if you're using it on a daily basis, even more if there's more than one person using the same bodywash in your home. I'm lucky if it stretches a full 2 weeks with 3 people using it in my household, it's normally finished in 1 week!

You should add a preservative if your adding water to anything like this. Even if the store soap has preservative in it already, you have boiled out the preservative, as some preservatives are heat sensitive. Also the type of preservative you use depends on the ph of your soap. Add 1-2 % of the weight of your set up soap so that your wash last's longer. Also spray and sterilize your containers first with rubbing alcohol and or boil the containers in a light bleach solution, or you risk mold and bacteria growing in your finished batch.

My favorite soap is the Olay Ultra Moisture... I found it took 2 bars with 3 cups water to get thickened and creamy. But @ $3 for 2 bars vs $7 for the bottled still a MUCH better deal. So looks like the bar to water ratio varies depending on the soap. I think I'm gonna try out different brands of bar soap too.

I just recently got into DIY projects that are natural. Out of all the projects that I have done, I like this one the best. I can't believe how long that this lasts, too. I used 4 Olay with Shea Butter (3.75 oz) to 3 cups water. I am going to try using Dove Pink Rose next. I think that 6 cups of water might be a little much, but I will try to see what works. FINALLY! I have been looking for a way to make liquid soap from bars of soap for what seems like forever. Now, I can get liquid soap (or body wash) for $1 a bottle, but somehow I have about 10 bars of soap I just cannot muster up the will to throw away (I think because when I try to use bars of soap I always go back to liquid soap). I thought making liquid soap from these bars would be a great way to use them up. I don't want to go out and buy glycerin, castile soap, tea tree oil (yuck!) or other things that will cost me money. I just want to use bars of soap and water. FINALLY!!! (Yes, I know I am repeating myself.) I made 1/2 the recipe (I always do when I make a recipe for the first time). IT CAME OUT GREAT! It was watery when I finished, but by the next morning it was PERFECT! Thank you!

I decided to try this mostly to save and reuse my Olay plastic pump bottles, rather than sending them to the recycling center. Followed your recipe exactly, except I used Olay with shea moisture, and it turned out quite runny. Filled my pump bottles anyway, and I'll be happy if the formula just gets me clean. My mother kept Dove by the bathroom sink when I was a child, and I couldn't stand the scent. I'll smell their bars in the store to see if things have changed, and after my DIY-Olay has been used up, perhaps I'll try it. My Olay bars cost $.98 each, and I made up about $15 worth of body wash, so it's a very clever, cost effective idea. Just hope it comes out thick and creamy next time.

@@cristinahidarida2704 A few things you can try. Please let me ask you a few questions. 1. Did you use distilled water, and NOT tap water? The tap water is different everywhere. Some have hard water, which is not good. I always go to Wal Mart to buy my distilled water. It's like 82 cents a gallon. 2. What soap did you use? Dove, Equate, or something else? I make mine with Equate, the WalMart equivalent to Dove. I tried to make soap with Irish Spring, and it came out like slime on Nickelodeon. 3. Did you use 2 cups of water to 1 bar of soap, which is usually 4 oz? 4. Did you add 1 TBSP of glycerin? That is found in the Health and Beauty Aids section. That helps it give more lather. 5. Did you try using an immersion blender or a hand mixer to make it smooth and creamy? I find that it solidifies more on the top, than on the bottom. Using an immersion blender or hand mixer helps mix everything together and makes it much smoother and creamier! Regardless, all is not lost. If you did everything above, then you can simply reheat your mixture, and add more water. Make sure you do not boil, nor simmer your mixture. Try that and see if it helps.

Thank you for sharing the recipe. I tried grating the bar soap, but it was too hard, so I got out a cutting board and a Ginsu butcher's knife with serrated edges. As I began slicing, I noticed the Dove soap was easy to cut into shredded pieces. I have carpal tunnel in my left hand (I'm left handed), and I just had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand on 2 Jan 18. I've seen some videos where others have cut their soap up into chunks, and melted it for 90 seconds in the microwave. I've also seen it where people put their soap in the refrigerator from 4 hours, to overnight. Then they use a food processor with a grating wheel to shre their soap.

Thanks for adding that tip and I hope your hands will be better now that you've had surgery.

You're welcome!! And I certainly enjoyed watching your videos!! You stayed on the subject, gave helpful information, and spoke with down to earth comments. I've seen some videos where people got off task, used obnoxious music, and were purely full of themselves!!

Just tried it yesterday, the exact way and I only got it liquid, not creamy at all, using regular Dove bar soap. How do I get it thicker and creamy like you?

dove is one of the many detergent bars that you can put in the micro and it will puff up. let cool, crumble and then add to your water.
